Anyone here ever play the RPG "Call of Cthulu"?

Did try 2 times in a row, 20 yars ago, but didn't liked it. Thinking of it; it propbably was because Master was not quit good. I had read a few scenarii books on this game since, and they seemed OK, although not in the style i liked.

Taking the kids to see it this weekend. Mrs P is going to see Sex and the City with a friend tonight - bullet dodged!

I dont imagine it will go over too well among people who actually know their history.

Seems like you dodged a real bullet too. The following is what one of the papers here in Stockholm wrote about the film;

"The toxic combination of tastelessness and overall lack of ideas as well as talent presented, numbs your senses and leaves nasty chemical burns in the brain. You stumble nauseated out of the cinema, silly grateful that the evil dream finally came to an end" ...

Edit: 1/Note: That is written by a female reporter ... 2/The qoute above has been translated from Swedish. Any translational errors are all mine.

Thats a fine job of translating, Per.

We have a tiny oak tree from Sherwood Forest in our garden. It's called Annie Oaktree

The books that sent GF over the edge (we have both an imminent move and a 3-day event riding clinic to do in July requiring some $$$ for supplies and in my case, an expensive new helmut) were William Ramsey's "The Battle of France: Then and Now. Six Nations Locked in Aerial Combat Sept 1939 - June 1940" and Chris Dunning's "Courage Alone: The Italian Air Force 1940 - 1943"

That was two weeks ago. Inspired by the most recent rendition of "Those poor dumb Japanese......they should never have taken on the West" as seen in the thread "Japan's Allies?", I checked my wait list for Edward Drea's "Japan's Imperial Army: Its Rise and Fall, 1853–1945" and found a good condition used copy for $20.00. Decided to go for it as i've been wanting it for a while. Will make a good companion piece to Bergerud and Coxx on the IJA. You know....the dumb army that could ONLY win in China unless the enemy was suprised and/or confused.

Not that i'm being disparaging or anything.....I only report the FACTS.

Kinda like the Zeros that could only win when Allied pilots entered combat on a "low power setting"...

BTW, it could be argued that Japan should never have taken on the West, since it led to the utter annihilation of their country (Imperial Japan ceased to exist).

OK, I'll bite. Whats a "low power setting"?

Nice job thwarting Logboy, btw.

Raises hand. Some twenty years ago. Lost intererest quite fast. The main point about RPG:s is getting to evolve and identify yourself with your character. CoC never let you do that. The characters kept dying in the most gruesome ways at a high rate.

Went back to the H.P. Lovecraft books instead. I agree with T, after you have started on those, King will never look the same.

Edited for grammar foul.

But one of the best punchlines I've seen in a while.

Alright, trivia question for you (bad) film buffs. Which movie involved special glasses that revealed skinless zombies' takeover of the world and extolled the virtues of SLEEP, EAT and PROCREATE on billboards?

That kind of movie exist ?????

Oh you poor child from a socialist country. It was a great movie.

The most scared I've ever been by a movie was when I was about 12 and saw Salem's Lot, on TV no less!  When the boy's vampire brother comes scratching at the window, I still get shivers.

The only movie that ever actually scared me was Event Horizon.

Why is it that gay men seem to know the female of the species better? Is it because they don't fall for the bumps and curves?

Um...yup.

I disagree. Men have the female of the species figured out fairly well. But we are willing to overlook some very blatant information in light of even a very remote chance of getting laid.

Because straight women love to go hang out in gay bars and tell their gay guy friends all their secrets and desires.

I wish he would pay more attention to me, bring me breakfast in bed and make enough money for me not to work? Secret you say?

I read "The Amityville Horror" when I was something like 9 or 10. Big frickin' mistake. I had to sleep in my older sister's room for about a month. There's a case where the book was infinitely scarier than the movie.

"GET OUT!"

The place is about 20 minutes away from my house. Not that half the rest of this island isnt just as scary.
