well, got to say, they suckered me in again (remember, I still thought it was a decent game, just needed work, but...)

they came out with patch 1.4, and the new update

what a mess

really, I got King Tigers in before Jan 1940

seen ship in a land locked hex (but to be fair, those could of been assigned to a HQ, I never bother to check)

my fighters which are as advanced as they are allowed, are slaughtered by Allied Strat Bombers

battles can take months for one hex, what hurts here, is, you can have 9 Divs in the battle, and be hurt because you are over stacked, so take a -50 hit, but the AI has 14 Divs in the battle and gets a -9 hit

Dipl was bad before, but I just don't think it even works now, everything, you can basicly do, says impossible, when you try, even with Nations that like you (got a Icon showing that says, you may be able to get so and so to join your faction, go and check and says, Impossible, besides that, it is a puppet of another nation

ahhh, most of the Nations I should be Allied with, are too afraid of me (which, isn't that part of it ?, you want to be my friend, or do I stomp on you ?)

I like the idea of buying a production linence from another Nation, but, so far, all but Italy says no

(so I had 3 Br 20s, 4 Mc 200, and 1 SM 79 in the LW)

I got 4 Divs of Sturm Marines, they are my shock troops, they do better then Tigers, I got 4 light Divs of Para's, but they ground troops so far (that is what the 79 is for, just got it)

really, a shame, as it could be a great game, just the people with it, are too stubborn to do what is needed, they want to prove there stupid ideas are better then what all the players want, just do it our way, and you will like it

my Ralations with Italy were 200, and still got the same screen

we also still have that stupid retreating Army thing, where you move forward faster then they can retreat, so they end up retaking the hex behind you when you move forward

one that is strange, if you fight a battle you can be stuck for up to 80 hours, since you just fought a battle, and can't move, fight, but, if you plot a ten hex move, you can fight and move though each hex, as soon as the fight is over

top screen shot, you can see 5 groups of LW fighters on AS mission, never caught the Polish Bombers (if I put them on intercept mission, I just get a resting report for the them, while the bombers attack over and over again)

odd, for Poland, got the Poland will never surrender message, then the Russians moved in, and the war was over ?

of course, then it took a month to get my PZ Div out of Russian lands, (one hex)

Strat movement seemed odd, I was able to March most of my troops out of Poland as fast as I was able to rail my main units

Denmark joined the Allies, so I took them out, they wouldn't surrender either

France started the war in the west, as I was trying to shift forces, once I got rolling, I kept on going, which is why I am fighting in the winter

(it don't stop the AI)

War could of started in May 39, I held off until July, before I started, nasty battle for Poland, but, if they hadn't of attacked north, maybe they could of held out longer, about a month to take Poland

(needed more troops on the western front)

oh yea, another odd one, I still got troops that are moblizing, weird, suppost to take 30 days, been 7 months

So this is Semper Fi? and it sounds like they didn't fix anything, you don't recommend it?

Twice was enough for me. HOI and HOI2 seemed so full of promise, yet so disappointing in many ways. Never again.

Maybe a Bolt mod could help the latest version? LOL.

yea it is Semper Fi, but playing as German (:)

I don't want to say, stay away from it, as I am sure there are things I am doing wrong, as I never really stuck with it, but....

it is a game, like the others, that could of been a great one, they just don't seem to care about that, they are more interested in, doing it there way, instead of what the player want, or would make the game better

I mean, I am enjoying it (other then complaining and screaming at it, over what it should/could do)

and it is one of those that, you want to wait one more battle, one more tech build, before stopping and then, have another battle or tech, or something come up

so close, but...

(I remember when HOI came out, I posted that the BF 108 wasn't a fighter, never was a fighter, there main air researcher came out and called me a Moron, he knew what he was doing, the 109 and 110 were fighters, so the 108 had to be a fighter !)

watching the Main Modders, not sure they want to really touch it, I think most of them are trying to get HOI 2 to work (may have some funky/unfriendly code in 3)

really, I do want it to work, I like the system, just so many simple things they could of done, been asked about, questioned on

(LOL take over Austria, no troops change sides, take over Czech, no Tanks, I mean really, with out either of those two things happening, there was not WWII (those two Czech Tanks were a major part of the German Panzer Troop in though out 39-41)

Yep I saw the Semper Fi vid too, reckoned they may have finally implemented the necessary improvements, and you're saying it's *still* a mess?
Gosh.
King Tigers in 1940...

some of the action, started my attack on Paris

this is after a couple of days of fighting, my main goal is to break the troops around Paris, then I got a chance to cut it off, but that battle to the side is taking forever

wearing them down, what Hurt is, Paris attacked me about the same time, I got it in a cross battle

broke the hex to the side, and my other Panzers are slipping around, in fact across the line I am slipping though and making pockets

ahhh

first screen shot is just after I finally broke the hex to the side of Paris, the Idea was to break that, then join the attack, but, my main force is doing well, so, went for the encirclement with the newly freed up troops

now this is part of the oddity, I did a Strat move of some troops that were backing up the Maggot line defence, of course, one they get there, I get, they been attacked and can't move for 78 hours or so, now, if I had marched them, it would of taken a day or so, longer, but they would be fresh and able to move, once they got there, but because I railed them in, they are stuck in place

goofy

(just in case, that is just a message, the reason they are stuck is the rail movement, not that they fought a battle)

lets see

Divs get driven out of the battle, then force out of another battle back to the first battle, they are worn out, and say they have ZERO chance of reinforcing the battle, so what do they do, yeap, they reinforce the battle, ahhhh

but, Paris finally falls (guess they never heard of a open city during the war, well, what would you expect, it don't look like they have heard much about what happened in the war to start with)

really it is a decent game system, but it should be used for a fantasy setting, it is much HARDer to complain about the Mk II Orge, that it carried two clubs and not only one like you got it in the game

but when zoomed in, the art is decent (only those are not D.520's, of course, you could also say those French Bombers don't look like Polez's either)

I can't abide the sprites in this game...though it's a good option because for those that like them, it's there.

As for the game and SemperFi itself, the thread here seems to suggest a decent AI...though knowing your testing background, I think I'd rather take your word for it than anyone in that thread at the moment.

I am not sure if it is a decent AI, or the game just cheats so much, the AI is better at Tech then you are, the AI is better at Diplo then you are (heck, I can't make it do much of anything here, even when everything is set up, it don't want to go along)

now I am messing around, wanted to do a air drop

try it and no luck, go to the manual, and the new one say much other then the new AI is set up to use them in the Pacific, had trouble loading the online HOI3 one, but finally got it, hmmm, doing everything by the rules

here is my base

I got 2 Ju 52's there, should be able to carry 30 in weight

a Para Brig is 5, I thought at first, maybe since I made 2 Brig Div's, I couldn't load up a Div size unit, so broke some down

nope

I should be able to load up 6 Brigs worth with those two Trannies ?

now, thinking maybe my Org is too low, but the rules don't say anything about you have to be 100% to load up ?

so maybe next month I can try again

(I think the ones marching in, are in decent shape)

hmmmm, wonder if it is the airfield damage ?

oddly, you only need one airfield to make a airfield, but you can build it up to 10

okay for what it is worth, it was the Org that was off, it needs to be at 100%

which can be kind of odd, as you want to gain tech, to improve the types, Org, so, to get good units, you make it HARDer to use ?

hint, if and when you drop your Paras, make sure you don't pick the hex that the enemy is basing all of his fighters at !!!!!

well, the paras got down, but I don' have any trannies left !!!

I don't like to complain about Beta Testers, as I know, most times, it is not there fault, but...

nobody noticed that after combat, the just defeated units, will turn around and attack the units that just defeated them, and lose the battle before it even starts ?

of course, this has been in there for years, another case of, they just don't care, it is they did it, so that is the way it is going to stay

in my game, the line is breaking, got the Maggot line cut off

going to be pretty ruff, I am already almost out of Manpower, and not even into the Eastern Front yet

ahhh, finally get a drive going

had two Panzer Divs, that I pulled there armor to upgrade them, said April 1st and April 8th, get close to the end of March, and go look, and now it says, Aug (no hassle with Production, resources)

also, and find this HARD to believe, found a Hex, that you can enter, but you can't leave, trying to get them out for the 10th time, the game crashed, HARD to believe nobody noticed there was a goofy hex in Holland (to be honest, I was a little surprised to see the Dutch retreat to it, so I followed, but can't get off the dang island

odd, got a message that France surrendered, they couldn't take it any more, and then that Vichy anxat them, and have taken them over

but, they didn't surrender

then pulling the troops back, I had a crash (think it was that hex I was complaining about)

LOL, a shame, I get a day to screw off away from my "testing" so wanted to play a new game, and I end up working as a beta tester

(get the feeling, it wasn' the testers fault, I think the people in charge, just don't want to hear what is being said)

I haven't had the problems or complaints you seem to be having. As far as getting King Tigers in 1940, I suppose you can if you try really hard, but the game does penalize you. If you were researching techs that were that far ahead, you are falling behind in other areas because research in techs that far ahead is penalized.

I have played the game for about 30 hours without a single glitch, so I don't at all feel like a beta tester on the product. The game isn't perfect, but considering the scope of the game Paradox has done a good job.

I got to disagree, I am/did not, go into the advanced Tech, Heavy Tanks are able to be reseached in 38, after you reach a level of Med Tanks reached, and you get a message saying you are too far ahead of yourself, if you reach the next level (every message I got, I shut down that area of research)

my Heavy Tech, is on hold until 41, so I am only on level 2 for Heavy Tanks (which I had the early Mk VI, then the Tiger I, and now the King Tiger (and oddly, I am only on level 2, so something else got me to the King, maybe theory ?)

wait one, when you get the Heavy Tech to reseach, then the VI is buildable, level one would be the Tiger I, and Level two, would give you the King (I was forgetting the Level 0 is buildable)

(of course, the stats and name are the King, but looks like a T-35 to me :)

glad it is running good for you, but...

since I do so much Alpha/Beta testing, even when I just play something, I start looking for things that are wrong, when they stand out at you

what message level you on ? are you getting the defeat, counter attack, defeat all before you can click the first message ?

are you getting the retreating Enemy, taking over hexes you have already taken ?

to me, the research is a joke, take bridge building, you have to wait to be able to research it (it is too advanced for a 36 start) if I remember right, the Roman Legions did that all the time, Armies knew about and how to build river bridges for a long time

how about researching Cargo holds ? that does not give you carry weight, carry weight is based on the plane, having a new fancy Hold, does not give the plane more carry weight ,(now packaging, may let you stack more, but not carry more weight, and all of the advances for combat carry, is on how to offload the cargo faster, not to carry more weight then the plane could carry to start with !)

of course, those are just nitpicking

It's really pretty though

Great graphics, sorry to hear about the bugs though, but they sure put their time into the appearance of the game. I have the original release (got it on sale for cheap) but haven't done anything but fire it up and hack around for while.

Thanks for the review though, I think I'll wait on Semper Fi till I can get it for $5.

Looks like they have done a good job in fixing the user interface and making it easier for players to manage the game.
But again, it's still a fantasy world.
For EU-setting, I can accept but not WWII.

Same here Wodin I never really liked HOI to begin with. What about Crusader Kings and EU:Rome though? I like those two. I'm still anxiously awaiting Making History II as I still enjoy the first one as my all time greatest grand strategy game for WW2. AI is good enough and at least it makes some good amphibious landings unlike the HOI series.

Well I jumped in on HoI3 and regretted it. I jumped on this in the vain hope it would fix HoI3 so I could have a decent game. Who knows. I've had no time to play yet (sister is staying for a few weeks) so could well have waited...maybe it's true - you can't teach old dogs new tricks.

I do have Making History II pre-ordered....like I said...old dogs and tricks and all that.

shouldn't be a long wait, I think I have seen HOI 3 for 7.99, and with Semper Fi at 19.99, they should be dropping soon

for the King, I think that is just a lazy programming and use of a basic tank form for all of the heavies (know the V300, Tiger I and Tiger II all use the T-35 snapshot)

hassle is, it is a decent game, but it could/should be so much more, so much better

turning stuff to AI control, while you take over other areas, is hit or miss, and mostly miss

the AI for Diplo, is odd, 3 games now, and it has not gotten me any friends, game I showing snaps of, Italy is close to joining the Allies (all of your choices as Germany, raise everybodies Threat level, the higher the Threat level the more nobody wants to talk to you, I mean come on, if you and I think a like, then something I do, should be in line with what you would do, not scare you off, because, I did something you would of done ?

this last one, while I have learned some of my mistakes and got a monster growing, my AI has been lousy, I ran out of Rare Metal in 1937, and it can make trades (oddly, I can't) so I get little bursts, getting the Anix, helped getting me a little burst, and then taking Czech gave another, now, taking Warsaw and the lowlands will help (I steal there stockpiles, when I take there cap's)

really, sort of odd, the game is forcing me, to be the bad guy

it is May 39, I can start the war, when ever I want to now, I got some fancies now

got my Shock Marines, my Heavy Shock Marines, my light recon, my light Armor, my normal Armor, 3 SS Heavy Armor, my Air is weak, got a stronger line in place along the Maggot line

I do like setting up the HQ's, got two new Armies and a Army Group set up for Poland

as I said, it is a good little game, but it could of very easily been a great game

well, I just made my pre war save

spent a long time with my Command set up !

that is the best part, the stuff that don't matter, but is fun :)

got my music set, got my pop and Ice, and it is time to put the world under my thumb

just never looks like you have enough (but last time I burned out all of my manpower, this time I backed off)
