Here are the western approaches. Notice that he is already penetrating the Sea of Japan even though that means that he is running past minefields. I will have to focus on increasing my minfields in the Tsushima area.

In other action during the turn, my forces completed the capture of Rabaul, Baybay, Atimonan, and Tavoy.
I continued my terror bombing at Wenchow, and performed a few fighter sweeps over various cities.
Since the moonlight level is now over 50%, Traskott sent Hudson and Blenheim bombers from Rangoon to bomb the oil facilities in Bangkok, but no damage was done.

Traskott's subs were far from idle. The area off Cam Ranh Bay was a hotbed of activity.
First, S-38 put a torpedo into the freighter Miike Maru. Luckily the fish hit a loaded fuel bunker and the freighter should be able to make safe harbor.

In air action this turn, his B-17s bombed Saigon dockyards again in a night raid.
I also conducted strong fighter sweeps over Clark, Manila, and Singapore, bagging a few more kills. I have a Ki-43 1b pilot who has 4 kills. That is remarkable considering the single gun firepower of that platform.

My forces also landed at San Jose and captured Basilan and Dinnagat.

The I-170 put a torpedo into the 22,000 ton liner President Coolidge, which the yankees were using as a troop transport. While the one torpedo is probably not enough to sink her, she will certainly be out of action for the next several months, a loss that the Americans will regret.

Most of the bombers were on ASW patrol again this turn, and no fighter sweeps were done to allow the ground crews to perform needed maintenance. As a result, aircraft losses were light.

Here is the situation in Luzon. I am pretty much on schedule here. I have also captured most of the small islands south of Luzon. I have not yet landed at Davao, but that will be done in the next 20 turns.

During the turn I captured San Jose.

Turn 24 30 December, 1941
My sub stationed off Sydney finally got a nibble. She fired a spread of torpedoes at a four stacker and missed. At least now I know that the American destroyer squadron that had been up around Java has been pulled all the way down to Sydney. That is good intel.

I am also hoping that Traskott is scratching his head over what to do about my subs. I have been hitting him with the subs in several locations forcing him to spread out his ASW forces. I want him to feel that there is no safe place for his shipping.

Off San Francisco, I-173 fired at and missed DD Dent. I-173 was not as lucky as the I-15. Dent located her and dropped a fairly accurate pattern of depth charges, one of which exploded close aboard, causing significant flooding in the control room.

I-173 survived the encounter, but she is having to break off her patrol due to damage. She will head directly to Yokosuka for repairs.
Interestingly enough, the group of ships that attacked her were the escorts for the President Coolidge and the Maori. The Maori was still present with group as the only civilian vessel. The Coolidge was nowhere to be seen and my ships sunk report is showing that she went down this turn from damage taken last turn. If this is true then that is a lucky break for me and bad news for Trascott.

In the air, my fighters performed sweeps over Clark and Singapore.

The AVG turned up at Hankow where they engaged my forces there. Again my Nates performed better than expected and were not slaughtered.

It appears that he has most of the AVG based at Changsha. With that being the case, I am going to hit the airfield with everything in range that can fly. the moon light level for next turn is 96%, so most of the strikes will go in at night. I have enough firepower scheduled that I have a chance to close the runway before the daylight air phase. During the day phase, I will also strike with a zero sweep followed by a zero escorted Nell strike. This means that I will not be sweeping over Luzon next turn, but the fighters there will be there when I get ready to shoot them down. Killing the AVG is a priority as they are the only threat to my air superiority over China.

On the ground, my forces captured Siargao, Boac, Georgetown and landed at Roxas. He kicked me out of Chiaochow on the coast of China near Amoy. I am moving forces to retake the village. I must admit that Traskott is doing very well in China. He is fighting aggressively in several places with enough forces to pin me down. This is keeping me from doing the reorganization and movement of garrison forces that Japan must do in order to build the mobile striking forces in China. I will not say that he is schooling me here, but I am watching what he is doing intently.

Everywhere else my land offensives are on schedule.
