Hi,

With patch 1.20, it seems that every submarine (playing with allies, at least) attacking [U]on the surface[/U] is doing absolutely nothing (i.e. does not fire a single time).

I had no such problem with previous versions ...

Another thing : I saw several times submarines attacking AG ships with torpedoes. I thought (might be wrong, though) that this was not supposed to happen.

Anyone can confirm these behaviours ?

I have played 5 months gametime of Scen 17 after applying 1.20 and have only seen my USN subs attack once on the surface. A Fleet sub surfaced at night and engaged a jap merchant. The merchant hit the sub with its deckgun(s) several times but did not sink it. The sub did not fire once. The following phase, the merchant was sunk by a submerged sub.

Well, I saw that behaviour countless times when I played scenario #7, mostly when subs were trying to attack AP or AG boats on the surface ... :eek:

Nope, my subs are acting just fine.............if you are still having this problem, try to uninstall UV completely then reload it and add all the patches back in (put you saved games somewhere safe while you do this;) ) and play test again. Hope this helps.

on 4 occasions subs have hit mines when playing still waiting for one to sink ! i think it is very unlikely that a sub would survive and mine hit.

would like to see a change to this.

OK, so, I uninstalled and reinstalled everything, but so far, the results are exactly the same : with scenario #17, a few days played, and each time a sub attacks a ship (mostly MSW this time) on the surface, the sub never fires.

I have seen this the last couple of times, but didn't really pay attention. Just chalked it up to the sub getting spotted.

I will be looking for it in the furure!

My subs are also attacking on the surface and not doing anything. I have also seen torpedo attacks against barges using v1.20, something that is not supposed to be happening. Subs with torpedoes are attacking merchant ships with 20mm cannon (no 4" shells fired at all) for some reason as well.

It's beginning to appear that v1.20 is more buggy than the earlier versions, given all the bugs and concerns being posted here.

I started looking at all my sub engagements.

The first time nothing happened on the surface attack, but the next time during an ongoing PBEM game:

[I]Sub attack at 25,33

Japanese Ships
AP Meiten Maru, Shell hits 6, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage

Allied Ships
SS S-45

Japanese ground losses:
Men lost 74
Guns lost 1
[/I]

So it is not a consistent problem, but it seems to be bug nonetheless.

I am going to keep stats on what percentage of the time it happens. At this point, it would seem the surface attack is the exception rather than the rule.

Some more info : after one month of play with sceneria #17, I finally saw some subs firing when on the surface.

So, maybe what we saw before has something to do with crew experience : at the beginning, they are not good enough to use surface engagement :confused:

Just a wild guess, but if this is true, maybe some message stating this could be useful.

And subs firing torpedoes at AG boats still happen, yes ...

Playing a modified Campaign Scenario # 17 in 8/42 the USS Amberjack is off Lae.

She has expended all of the 4"/50 ammo as well as the 40mm ammo ! at AP`s_ at night_ on the surface, and sunk several, with _just guns_ and guns & torps, this while she still had torps..! Her Capt. J. Bole has Leadership 72 Inspiration 62.

The Crew experience is Day 74 Night 71. She is the only Sub doing this, and the only one with that fairly high combination of Leadership & experience stats...

I regret to say this is with Ver 1.11 :eek:
