That's how it starts, next you end drinking tea and using words like wanker.

I do both already!

Is there a cure?

No. I am half german, with the other half croatian.

This gives me a light brown skin compared to others even in the ugliest german winter.

Has anyone heard from Mike Solli lately?

I've seen one or two messages from him over the last couple of months. He's been extremely busy with work....lots of time on the road. Other than that, he said things are good.

A lot of high-end "elite" football players are amazingly brittle, and incapable of lasting a full 90-minute match. I'd mention triathletes as a category of sports people who have to be in better shape than footballers.

Hear, hear! (Says the ex but still wannabe triathlete.)

Those who attempt to pretend it is not a demanding sport that requires absolutely the hightest (above ALL other sports) levels of conditioning and skill are simply deluded louts without the benefit of sanity to grace their lives.

Sorry, mate-you're smoking crack. I've yet to see individuals that can beat gymnasts or long-distance swimmers for conditioning. Deluded lout? Step back a bit, Mister.

No, I'm not. While gymnasts have tremendous muscle endurance and swimmers as well, I can promise you they do not come close to the necessary levels required to play 90 minutes of international football. They do not. They are not required such time frames and do not train to last for them. Period. Nuff said. End of debate.

I give you the NHL hockey player. Tell them they are not conditioned for 90 minutes of play after they have finished a 3 or 4 overtime Stanley Cup playoff game. Yes, they only spend at most half of that time on the ice, but the effort during their shifts is at least equal to that of a soccer player who is currently making a play with/on the ball.

Yeah, they played against the Dutch earlier today, and after a promising first half, opened the second half with a superb header straight into their own net. Then the Dutch scored a second goal a couple of minutes before time. Grrrrr...

Only need to worry about stocking up for Sunday, as you can't buy any rum on Sunday.

No, just a sad commentary on an American slowly turning English. I love football, drink tea and have tried to popularize the word wanker. I'm also trying to work in 'pear-shaped' and 'what's all this then?'.

Yeah, Dutchness seemed to be a bit quiet in that one. Noticed they are playing more D and midfield than they usually do. Maybe they are training up for the next round?

And that would be France, Argentina, England, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Brazil, and Spain. The Dutch could do France, England, Italy and Spain, and maybe Argentina, but Germany and Brazil are like machines.

What I've seen from the Dutch, so far, is an answer to the German system. I think (imho) they don't care so much about the cup as they do about Euro braggin rights. They 'could' do Germany, if they got lucky up front.

Welcome back. You missed a surprisingly polite MacArthur thread, bitter pre-cap flak and SBD-3 production threads and the usual senseless violence.

I blame it on early exposure to Monty Python on PBS when I was 8 or 9. Dennis Moore got me interested in period dramas for some reason (Barry Lyndon kinda of thing) which got me into Shakespeare which got me into British history and the above-referenced tea and words like wanker. I started playing soccer when I was 5, so I can't blame Monty Python for that.
