For those who feel that the chance of mud beginning in October is too severe. I give you 4 options to choose from, the zipped folder attached contains the following:

NO mud_area.csv / NO winter_area.csv to be used together to forgo weather completely.

01 mud_area.csv - the least chance of mud occurring

02 mud_area.csv - a moderate chance of mud

03 mud_area.csv - the original file with the section stating that mud equals frost removed.

To use any of these files you should in the scenario folder of your choosing rename the existing file to preserve it.

Then rename the replacement removing the prefix and copy it into the scenario folder.

*** These files are NOT to be used for the FALL WEISS and OVERLORD scenarios ***

I chose not to modify winter_area.csv because historically the Winters of '39-'40, '40-'41 and '41-'42 were quite severe. That said mud_area can be renamed winter_area and used in place of the original.

Another possibility is to incorporate all files renaming them as desired to simulate changing weather from year to year. A bit tedious but workable.

This is rather interesting. I would like to have a weather model that excludes all mud during the june-august period, and just a little of it during the months of may and september. Could you easily accomplish this?

Ask and ye shall get want you want. The zipped mud_area.csv has zero chance of mud June, July & August with no greater than 11 - 20% in May and 10 - 17% in September. BTW the answer to your question is yes.

It really is an easy file to MOD when you open it with Excel or scalc (Open Office) just remember the separators must be semi-colons.

Thanks a lot!

I looked through the weather part briefly some way back, but decided against trying to decypher the location figures. Your help solves a problem for me. Earlier I had a rather severe movement penalty for mud, but had to take it away when the blasted weather lingered long into the summer. Of course it sometimes rains in summer, but it seldom creates dramatic ground conditions. Now I can re-introduce the movement penalties.

I owe you one.

I have just completed one year, clicking through the seasons without moving or doing anything else. Looks fine. I would like to have a little more mud during October, though. Can I change this by increasing the numbers in the monthly columns? Does, as an example, 20 means 20 % chance of mud? How about winter? Does winter outdo mud if they appear simultaniosly?

Yes, yes and yes.

When you open it take notice that there is an overlapping of areas north to south and east to west.

I'm hoping for example that if there is a 10% chance N-S and 10% E-W it is just that and not an overall 20% chance.

The tutorial wasn't clear on how it worked.

I agree with you that this is not how often it rains but how often it rains hard enough to stall movement.

I have made drastic changes for October, making it by far the wettest month of the game. I want the players to know, come October, they won't get anywhere fast. Seems to work fine again, with November being rather gloomy as well.

I will have no combat reduction in mud conditions, as I have come to realize that adverse weather benefits the attacker and not the defender. Same goes for winter. In HQ we have decided to change consts during December-February months while playing ETO. Mud will affect only movement, whereas winter will affect ZoC, reduce multi-hex combat efficiency and degrade armour strength.

Your assistance in changing the weather will much help to accomplish this.

It is safe to say that modifying the way weather occurs has been my passionate obsession.

Now that DTrader pointed me in the direction of --- events_77_dummy.xml

...Weather.csv

I have made my first attempt at EVENTS

Working off what I found, I have come up with a chain of events that allows snow to build in from the north between Sept '39 and Feb '40. This is followed by a spring thaw.

Attached is the .xml renamed .txt so I could upload it.

JPEGS to follow.

As you can see it transitions week to week

The JPEGS are from a test game without winter_area.csv effecting the changes.

When it is used it blends very nicely to fill in the gaps.

This game is really amazing as to how it can be modded by even idiots like me. Great job guys. You will make this the best WWII strategic game of all time.

Now if I could just figure out some stuff for WWIII in May 1946...

Make Allied reinforcements/replacements dependent upon a linked game of SoP? ISTR that both Britain and the USA were starting to reach the limits of their recruitment pools by May '45. By 1950 (Korean "Police Action") both had very different armies because of the changed social structure of the recruitment process.

One step closer to the summit!

The attached folder has what is needed to disable the winter events found in

events_77_dummy.xml

No_Winter_Events.xml is the above without the winter events

Heavy_Snow.xml replaces those events over the entire length of the '39 scenario.

Side note: Having never played a game into 1948, while testing I continued to end turns into 1949 without the scenario ending in anyway.
It might be due to my modding relations.csv so that nobody went to war.

I have to admit that I unknowingly ventured into the Forbidden Zone of Event ID's.

I used available ID's between 400 and 670

Sorry about that.

Hallo AH4Ever:

quoting Doomtrader on my question about events:

"Please do not use event number below 20000 (and you are limited to 29999)"

I guess if you change the event ID's above the 20000 than it will not harm anyone

I certainly didn't choose the range I did maliciously, I was just looking for available ID's.

It wasn't until I was nearly done that I read your post and there are over 200 events in my document which need the ID entered 3 times.

Right now it works and unless the upcoming patch has events in the stated range and I hope it does not. I'm going to stand pat, but if you feel that you need to change them to avoid a possible future conflict have at it.

The reason I mentioned the range I used is that hopefully DTrader will not use them himself.

Thank you
