Amphibious Landings - 6/17/2010 11:36:14 PM

Hi there,

Looking for a little help as the manual is as useful as a turd on a stick.

Situation: Japs take Darwin. I send a fleet, including amphib landing craft and transports to the Arafura Sea in at attempt to get Darwin back.

Problem: I cannot land near Darwin with amphib assault. When I choose disembark I get purple circles for other islands (to the north) but Northern Australia has nothing. I also can't move my fleet to Darwin to bombard (no circle).

Solution/Explanation: Is this becasue the japs have ships in the harbour - I can't see anything there. Any ideas???

Signed,

Confused.

By the way, the game seems pretty good - a bit rough, but good.

A screenie would be welcome as you can't just disembark anywhere. Some places are not available to unload troops there.

BTW, are you 100% sure you are using amph and not transports?

How embarassing - I can't seem to post the image. Just comes up black.

But im 100% on them being amphibious (listed as 'landing craft' in the fleet manager screen), and I can land the troops to the islands (West Papua etc) to the north as mentioned previous.

Thanks for your help on this - I'm starting to think it must be a bug. Happy to post image if someone tells me how

Works for me as Japan.

The reason why you will not see Purple circles is ... You own the hexes. Can not invade your own hexes.

Wait one turn and the hex next to Port Darwin should turn inot Japanese control. Then you can attack there.

Well yes, I'm the owner but Japan is the controller. Seems daft that I can't do a amphib landing and fight for it back. I've waiting heaps of turns to see if i can land and nothing chnages. No port icon, either green or yellow, no purple landing points, nothing. Perhaps the Japs will realise there's not much to do in Darwin (not Port Darwin) besides drinking and leave.

If they own Darwin the purple circle next to it should be there after on turn because of zone of control.

Have you tried clicking on it?

In Time of Wrath, you could not land forces on hexes that contained enemy units. I have not tried to do amphibious invasions yet in SotP, but have you checked for enemy units?

As far as I know there is a possibility to land on hexes with enemy units.

Yes, it can be done in SoP. I just took Rabaul that way.

Ok.  In my Pacific Campaign, the Japanese are in Midway.
I sent an amphibious force and the disembark button is grayed out.
How do invade?

I have a landing task force in landing craft in the central Pacific with the aim of recapturing Midway but am being told that I can only disembark in a port. I definitely don't own Midway and can't access the port with my fleet. Any ideas?

I'm not continuing my grand campaign until they fix this.
Maybe play the smaller scenarios.

This is just great, the japs have midway in my campaign. I may as well quit. What a waste of my time. How does this get by testing? I guess they never had to take midway. Amateur errors.

I hope I am not 100% hijacking this thread.., but..., On that next patch, any chance you could wipe out the F12 in PBEM?

In fact it was fixed yesterday (I hope ;) ), but you now weekend... We have been working through this whole week including Saturday and Sunday, but Matrix has its well-deserved free days so please be patience. Anyway I can understand your feeling as I'm still a player, and I think most of WI men are still players, however a few of us prefer AAAAAAA games ;)

I'm sorry if I missed it, but will saved games work with the beta? I've been building up for an eventual reclaiming of lost ground in the Grand Campaign and hope it wasnt for naught.

Thanks
