I've been waiting for a few years now to get this game, until my 3 children were old enough that I would actually have some time to invest in playing consistently. I'm mainly trying it to make sure I will like WitP:AE before I invest $80.

So far I like it it. It reminds me a lot of an old game from Koei named P.T.O. (Pacific Theater of Operations) which I loved and played for many hours. Anyone else plays UV that also played PTO around?

UV is very different from WitP, not half as complex (or complicated) but it's a very good game. AE seem to be even more complex, but I still didn't buy it.

Over here in Germany for PC, only P.T.O. II was available. I enjoyed it very much. It's somehow not 'serious'. It's not a simulation, it has no historic plane- or shiptypes,
but it's fun. If there were a newer version for PC, I'd buy it. My two children are still not old enough, so I'd like a 'lightweight-PTO' game that does not absorb too many time.

Welcome to UV !

Do look here for some good add -ons for UV ( and then WITP )

http://mathubert.free.fr/

I`m not sure my scenario 17 works with UV if they upgraded UV past the the 2.3 patch, but if it does it is IMO a much more balanced campaign game.

"Scenario 17 with Midway historic outcome : a new scenario by Black Cat (release notes) - uses the scenario slot 25 - Updated in June 2004 - now works with UV v2.3"

wow ... has it really been six years now...

welcome!

UV is a very fun game. There are some bugs and minor things the program does that can he fustrating at times, but that can be said of any complex game. I agree it is quite different from WiTP. However, it has the advantage of getting a turn done and sent in several minutes instead of several hours.

Im enjoying the game, but I can already tell I'm going to want to get WitP:AE soon. Playing PTO I was accustomed to dealing with the entire Pacific, and having several fleets etc,....and I feel like I am way too limited in UV. Thanks for the comments, and I will be sure to check out that link.

I have played both, but years ago; I recently finished the grand campaign in WitP AE and have just applied the latest patch, but it will be some time before I test it out w/another long game vs. the AI.

The last version of PTO I saw was for the Playstation; high on graphics and music, low on replayability.

Pity.
