Hi gentlemen,

i play witp since 5 years every day (1 turn a day) so i bought AE last year but never play (i want to finish witp before play ae), i'm near to finish witp (01/05/44) cause i have saporro, wanakai and ominato on the japanese far east main land, rabaul, singapore, iwo jima, saipan and truk are mine with my brave marines, i want to buy sop but it's look like strategic command ww2 pacific theater isn't it ? i dont like SC WW2 pacific theater cause this game is not enough deeper and complex, so my question is : SOP is much near SC WW2 pacific theater or much near WITP ? sorry for my bad english...

Thanks

Tofke

As a devolper I may only suggest to have a look at following topics:

"This vs WITP: AE"
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2480968

"A simpler version of WITP-AE?"
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2500194

BTW None of devlopers uses English a primary langage, so the atmosphere here is fairly free and easy.

This is a MUCH simpler game than WITP-AE (or WITP). I don't have the otehr game SC-Pacific, but I suspect that that one is closer to this one.

If you want to make sure the game is close enough to WITP for you, why don't you wait for the demo? Then you can see for yourself. After all, you haven't played WITP-AE yet (man you are a deliberate one...)so you have plenty of time.

Henri

Hi. I own UV, WitP and WitP AE. If you are a WitP addict who plays 1 turn a day for 5 years (!!! F*&^"$£ hardcore!) then this game will probably feel very simple to you. So, if you want a break with a simple and fun game, this is a good one, but be prepared for a lot of abstraction (e.g. your fleets only occupy sea zones, not the individual hexes, so combat seems to happen a lot more often than in WitP).

Hi silver_bullet,

Would you care to make a short comparison of both games? Like moving units, sea battles, air combat, etc.

I don't have Strategic Command Pacific Theater but I did some research.  The games are very similar in scope and implementation but there are some differences:

1)  Land Unit Scale: SC is Corps, SoP is Divisons (for the grand campaign).
2)  Naval Unit Scale: SC and SoP use naval groups.
3)  Map:  SC uses square tiles, SoP uses hexes.  SoP looks to have more space to maneuver land units and the map is more close to real world.
4)  Map:  SC uses the same square tiles for naval movement, SoP naval movement done by the use of Sea Areas.  The Wargamer review states that the SC naval movement rates are slower than reality.  It seems Sop sea movement rate is faster due to the sea area mechanism.
5)  Naval battles:  Don't know about SC but SoP has a naval battle resolution phase where the user can give simple orders.
6)  Generally no unit stacking in both games.  But SoP naval units can stack due to the sea area mechanism.
