Its nice to get a head start on things.

Sorry about the match today. If I were a betting man, I would certainly have had my money on your guys.

By the way, any respectible Minnesotan will tell you we have four seasons:

1. Almost Winter
2. Winter
3. STILL Winter
4. Road construction

In a tip of the hat to our unofficial state bird, some variations on the cycle substitute #4 on the list with 'Mosquito hatch'. To each their own.

This is somewhat similar to life in LI, if they didnt skip #4 3 years out of 4 or so. I have yet to figure out what the myriad local municipalities do with the ridiculously high property taxes they levy, but very little of it seems to go towards road repair. On the bright side, at least this isnt Brooklyn.

The happy medium is not located in Texas.

For things that ARE located in Texas I could refer to a famous R Lee Ermey line from a rather well known movie, but I wouldnt do that. That would be trite.

World Cup 2010 is turning out similar to WW2...  The French surrender and give up early on, the Americans turn up at the last minute and we're stuck facing the Germans who no-one thinks we can beat...

Are you going to have the American squad come into your game and beat the Germans for you in the WC?

Can we have Dempsey and Tim Howard on lend-lease?

EDIT: and Onyewu.

.. and to carry the analogy even further - the Japanese are having a storming success in the beginning ...

and to carry it a teensy bit further .. think the Germans could do a Kesserine on us. They are vulnerable, yes, but they play so well together as a team - not sure we have got to that point yet.

In keeping with the WWII themeology:

If we did this the price would have to be: Even though we only contribute <50% of the manpower for the endeavour, we'd like 100 % of the accolades for the victory, please.

Onyewu? Surely you'd rather have Donovan. What a cup he's had. Onyewu didn't even play against Algeria.

Yeah, I know, you need pace at the back. And inventiveness in the midfield. And finishing. And a keeper who can catch.

But who doesn't? Truth is, we have a bunch of international scrubs playing balls-to-the-wall as a team and are doing fine with it. Just like Slovakia (GREAT win!), the Kiwis, Paraguay, Uruguay and even Ghana (who needed a massive result from the Blackshirts..errm..Kiwis...erm..what are they called?) to move into taking on us.

This has been one of the most enjoyable cups I've had the privilege to watch. I really hate it that Denmark and the Swiss are out. I really like how those sides play. But c'est la vie (or for the French, c'est la morte ).

There goes the Danish team... Now they can go back to sucking in obscurity, instead of doing it in front of the world's TV cameras. Thank Thread for that; bunch of overpaid nancy boys...

C'est la mort. Not "la morte".
It would be better to say something like "c'est la fin" (it's the end)

or much better

"c'est la honte; c'est la méga-honte" (it's The shame, the mega-shame)

And to be honest, i don't care at all about soccer (football)

D*mn. We had an (unintentional) power outage last night. Was halfway through doing a PBEM turn when the power went.

Seems like this outage crashed the power unit of my PC sound system as well :-/

Ah well, everything seems fine with the PC at least. Just have to buy a new sound system.
