Well boys I got to see everybody's favorite vampire movie series newest sequel tonight "Eclipse" with my wife I believe I was the only guy there. We sat in the Lux level which was cool because I got to have a beer with my popcorn. They also gave us a bunch of free junk since it was the movie premiere they gave us a free book about some supernatural hunter guy which looks like utter garbage also coupons to some womens clothing stores.

Congrats, Simon!

I just had BBQ spareribs, corn on the cob, coleslaw and freshly-baked bread with garlic butter for lunch in the hospital cafeteria. Cost the equivalent of about $3.30 and was just brilliant.

I feel like spending the rest of my working day just sitting in a chair doing nothing with a big grin on my face...

Good stuff, T. Sometimes it can be very satisfying to feel like you almost stole something.

Lets be fair. Considering that his wife talked him into going in the first place, I'd say she confiscated those quite a while ago.

Ugh. Are you doing pennance for some crime or something? Did you enter this theatre willingly and of your own volition or were you drugged / beaten into submission? I can't imagine any threat short of loss of life that would have made me trade places with you...

So, how was the movie?

Just finished Edward Drea's "the Imperial Japanese Army; it's rise and fall 1853 - 1945" Facinating, and sobering book. Highly recommended to anyone interested in the IJA, the org.

Looking to invest in Jon Lattimer's "1812...war with America" Always had an interest in this mostly forgotton episode in Anglo-American relations.

Yes. Whilst the section on the Pacific war is very short, (too short) it still fills in some pieces, particularly on why Okinawa was defended the way it was.....a facet that always puzzled me. But then again, like Kaigun, book isn't meant to be a battle history but a history of development. I was suprised that in spite of the potential dry-ness of such a focus, the book was quick and very interesting reading for me. Combined with Coxx (Nomanhan) and Bergerud (Touched with Fire), it really gives a rounded picture on how and why the IJA did what it did militarily, and in Drea's case helps explain how the policy of fighting to the death (only institutionalized in 1941) and brutality came about and lastly how the State came to serve the Army vs the other way around. I now agree with Professor Bergerud's comment about "criminal government" that he made in Fire in the Sky.

really really good book.

Where have you been eating Bruce? I suggest waffle-house! T , if you would eat polenta with cheese, then essentially you've already had cheese grits. Italians call it polenta, Southern Americans call them grits. Northerners seem to think that grits are some kind of creme of wheat/oatmeal and put sugar or maple syrup on them!. Consider them corn based pasta.
