I have played quite a few games now with the many updates of the game, and something has me puzzled enough to ask for feedback from the community. As I said, several games and I don't recall ever seeing any AI players allying with each other. They are constantly pestering me to make a Mutual Defense Agreement with them, but they don't make any with each other (at least not in the games I'm playing). Anyone else notice anything in this regard?

Not 100% certain if there was a previous pact, or if it was a 'bribe to go to war', but in my last game I declared on my neighbor only to have the only other Empire I'd met send me a message to the effect of "So-and-so just convinced us to declare war on you, so sorry..."

Still way too new to the game to be able to tell the differences between pact being enforced and a bribe to begin a war.

Depend on your reputation, your race and goverment, the AI empire dislike or like you.

When i destroyed alot pirate bases and my reputation was very good, i dont got problems to get peace/trade alliance with the most of the AI empires. A few gift to get over +20 and you can ask for Trade alliance.

But with low reputation (invading neutral colonies) you have much more trouble to get friends.

If you don't share rare luxury resoures, you have even more trouble.

BTW, you better never accept a mutal defence pact, thats more trouble them it helps you.

You misunderstand him Canute, he says that he has never seen AI get a defence pact with another AI Empire.  I *think* I have had the same experience (I can't recall ever seeing a defence pact between two AI Empires anyway).

I know it can happen, of course I stacked the deck by setting the 2 empires in question to +50 diplomacy in the editor to ensure it would happen. So for a quick start game I remain unsure.

I can't ever remember seeing two AI empires in a mutual defence pact.

Like I said, only when I set it in the editor can I make it happen.
