So I go to pick up the Mayan housekeeper from my sister-in-law's house and on the drive back we are talking is this kind of Spanish/Mayan/English creole. Oddly, she asks how old Stalker Girl is. Even more curiously, I answer. She answers, "Hay, doctor! Pense que era mas vieja." (Holy ****! I thought she was much older")

The claws are out. I didn't tell Stalker Girl.

that's funny...when i put "Hay, doctor!" into babelfish i didn't get "Holy ****!"

It's 'Hay' (hiiee), not "hay" as in what one makes whilest the sun shines. The former is more analagous to 'Aye aye aye' or "Oi Vey" than our Norteamericano greeting of 'Hey' as in 'Hey, dude, what's up?'

Hope this helps.

******New Scotland, March 22, 1942********

New Ullapool is now level 2 and has some Sallys. New Edinburgh suffered a port attack. I don't think the engineers will be able to keep up with the ongoing damage. 2 already damaged DD's that could not leave port were hit again. They are almost certainly doomed. The damaged Porter and Salt Lake City sunk.

This brings cumulative and expected USN combatant losses for the New Scotland campaign to 4 CA, 7 DD, 2 DM, one DMS and one PG.

IJN losses 2 DD confirmed, 2 DD likely, one CL likely, one CA unconfirmed, one SS confirmed, innumerable small escorts and Soryu (possibly...although I don't trust the little brown-nosers because this is the same group of yes-men who told us Akagi had sunk).

Another Jap brigade showed up on the Gryme's New Dyke Line which brings the ratio of assault points to about 1.5:1 in favor of Johnny Jap, however, a Jap bombardment attack was met with a furious counterbombardment so the Allies seem to have a significant advantage in artillery tubes or intel or prep. Allied armor is very strong. I have started to build up the airfield at New Perth (La Foa). I resisted that before for fear of losing it, but in retrospect it would have been a good move. Oh well, no do-overs in war, eh? Damaged fighters are being flown off New Scotland slowly. 3 were destroyed on the ground today.

A Jap Naval Guard unit landed on Tanna and ran into two coys of Edson's Raiders and got their ass handed to them. If they want Tanna they are going to have to bring some more LYB's.

Jap carriers loitering to the NE of New Ullapool trying to dodge allied the US subs. I am waiting for them to run out of 250 kg bombs. Surprisingly, the high point value support ships (AE, AD, AG x 2, AP and fast AK's) made a safe breakout from New Edinburgh.

This is a pretty funny idea but I am not sure how Mayan girl found out that Stalker Girl told me about the detachable shower head secret.

This is pretty funny. I was at Lowes the other day in the plumbing section. The guys are rummaging around in boxes looking for the right sized gaskets and 1/4 turn valves and at the end of the aisle there are three women staring longingly at a beautiful display of detachable shower heads.

Now, I know what you are going to say..."Phht, Mandrake, you are so full of ****". That is what you are going to say, but I want you to do this experiment. Go down to a high end hardware store or a bed and bath type store and ask to see the detachable shower head display. You will likely get an odd look. They will probably transfer you to a female salesperson who might ask, "Is this for anyone special?" You will then be ushered to "the shrine". There will be a well-kept, carefully lit display of polished brass and fake chrome and stainless detachable steel shower heads. It may even have a partition for privacy. There is no warranty information and note carefully that unlike the fixed shower heads it will NEVER say "low-flow".

Try it. See what you find.

******March 23, 1942******

The Jap cruiser force paid another visit to New Edinburgh, destroying 3 aircraft on the ground and sending the port damage to 19%. The airfield is virtually obliterated. I have started another aviation engineer unit and a Marine Air Wing to New Perth (La Foa).

The big news is the Japs tried an attack on the Gryme's New Dyke Line and were completely crushed losing 3000+ casulaties. I am going to try a counterattack today. New Perth is 2 d away from a workable airfield.

Counterattack at Tanna today too before more of the LYB's arrive.

I am sending a USN/RAN crusier force to loiter SW of Lord Howe Island in case the Jap carriers depart.

What he said.

Meanwhile Imperial Guard Div is stuck in the jungles of northern Burma and subject to a massive aerial bombardment by the RAF. Well, 16 Hudsons actually.

Formidable has left the Cape and is en route to Perth, Illustrious might be deployed over to that side to.

March 23rd

Warspite does what she does best, sneaks up on enemy ships in port and kicks the snot out of them. Then she puts the boot in and bombards the airfield too. Koepang will never be the same.

Even the Dutch have a good day:

Allied aircraft
B-25C Mitchell x 2

Japanese Ships
BB Hyuga, Bomb hits 1

As for the 2nd (or 3rd) Naval Battle of Koepang..y'all have to see this.

Warspite and bros head in after dark, apparently undetected, catching a very large convoy unloading at Koepang. This eventuates in a very gratifying payback for the New Edinburgh smackdown.

The Japs wisely get under way. Warspite and bros drop a bunch of HE on the airfield, destroying 5 Jap fighters and hitting the runway nearly 200 times. Good night's hunting you say? You might say that and you would be right...but there is more. After stopping to look at the new M&M Enterprises model homes at Koepang Habor Ridge Valley View Mountain Glen development, the TF heads back home around 09:00 and runs into the retreating Japs about 40 m W of Kopeang.

*******Corregidor, 04:20, March 23, 1942********

A flotilla of 3 PT boats are idling at dockside. General MacArthur crosses the small boarding plank onto the boat.

Dugout Doug: <he stops and turns> I am proud of you all. Sorry, there is nothing more I'd like to do than stay here but I am needed. If I don't leave now it will be really hard to explain when I assume command of SWPAC. The President has ordered it. I'll be back!

Wainright: But General, what about the nurses?

Dugout Doug: What nurses?

Wainright: In the Malinta Tunnel, sir.

Dugout Doug: Oh, yeah...well give them a unit citation or something. Say, I really do have to run. We should do lunch. <crosses the boarding plank> OK, where is that Bloody Mary I asked for?..........

********March 24, 1942*********

The counterattack at the Gryme's New Dyke Line was a failure. 600 US casualties vs 250 for the Japs.

I half think they purposely made the disastrous attack on the previous day with part of their force to sucker me into attacking. Bloody, devious, inscrutable, near-sighted Little Yellow Bastards. There are now nearly 50,000 Japs on the line. I ordered a Kiwi Bn and a Marine Raider Bn forward from New Edinburgh. The Japs raided New Perth (La Foa) with the cruiser force based at New Ullapool. Clearly they are rearming there. The raid was completely ineffectual (probably poor intel). The airfield at New Perth will be ready tomorrow. Ground support troops and AA guns should arrive for the grand opening.

The Jap carriers are unspotted. I have started the USN/RAN cruiser force up from Lord Howe Island, anticipating a night raid on New Ullapool for the 25/26th. Recon patrols are flying from Fiji and Norfolk Is. and Lord Howe Is. but this leaves a void North of New Scotland of course.

The counterattack on Tanna is a draw as more Jap troops were already ashore. I may try to get Edson's boys out by evac convoy. A light surface force (one RAN CL and 3 x DD) sorties from Auckland with the intent of attacking Jap transports at Tanna but is at best 3 d out and will likely miss the party.

Epitaph:

Doug got out just in time. The Japs shock-attacked with 45,000 troops and the entire postion on Bataan and Coregidor collapsed. 17,000 troops are making the long march. There were about 10 P-40E's left at Bataan. No more.

It is disappointing they folded with 14,000 tons of supplies left.

Now we have another 45,000 angry LYB's to deal with and about 400 tubes of medium and heavy artillery. Uggh. Major Jap forces released from Java and the PI at the same time....uggh. They still will need to clean up the Southern tip of Java and Cagayan on Mindanao, but there are no serious Allied forces there to overcome.

Where will they go with these troops? India? Northern Oz? Perth? Ceylon? Fiji? Samoa? New Zealand? Reinforcements for New Scotland? Alaska?

Yes, yes, of course....not to mention the level 3 forts....but I thought the LYB's may have been in disarray after losing 3,000 to my 12 troops the day before. Plus I have half of an ad hoc armoured division in Grants and Stuarts. It might have worked.

In retrospect I should have adjusted my medicine first.

XO: No sir. I remember you told me once you wanted me to speak up when I believed you were wrong...er..I mean..mistaken, sir. Do you care to have a look sir?

Cpt. Barnes, CO: Commander, I don't need glasses to see my watch ...and the sun is not even over the horizon yet!

XO: Even so, sir. I must insist. It is Late.

Cpt. Barnes, CO: Commander, how do you feel about your career in the Navy......

Where will they go with these troops? India? Northern Oz? Perth? Ceylon? Fiji? Samoa? New Zealand? Reinforcements for New Scotland? Alaska?

I am playing Nelson as well and he has invaded New Zealand in our game. Getting a bit dicey there for the good guys and the All Blacks. Unfortunately, the bonus troops have not arrived since we are waiting for the new patch. I am an Alpha kind of guy, I don't do Betas.
