This Mod takes the game sprite unit images and puts them on a counter to make them easier to see on the normal game map. Each country has it's own counter color (chosen to not be too close to any other).
The file:
SpriteCountersv1_1

From the readme.txt file:
Storm Over The Pacific
Sprite Counters Mod v1.1
by bbmike
-------------------------------

To install, simply extract the SpriteCountersMod.ZIP in your

Storm over the Pacific\data\gfx

directory. Once you enter the game you should be able to select
the new 'SpriteCounters' option from in the Preferences, Units, Unit Skins
menu.

I haven't fully tested all of the unit graphics so let me know in the Matrix
forum if there's a glitch or problem. Please post a screenshot if possible.

To Do:
------
Create plane and ship sprite counters if there is enough of a demand for them.
Possibly change the counter colors if Wastelands Interactive changes the country
colors.

A screenshot:

Here are the current counter colors for each country:

Well it works.... but can you make the Japanese base Yellow.

The Japanese have always been yellow.

Other suggestions: And the I would switch the pink Japs to the Chinese and make the USSR Red not purple.

Please note my picture mod when zoomed out tells you what the unit is. Each country and level is unique.

Once you get use to the pictures one can tell at a glance the size (Division/Corps) and level (1-5)

Thanks for the counters.

I just noticed that the Australians are Yellow.

That icon would be nice for Japan.

umm... what color for Australia? A bright light blue?

Hi Razz,
I just read that the colors for all of the countries are stored in the countries.csv file. I'll look at re-coloring the counters with the information in this file. Thanks for the feedback!

Green and gold are the modern sports colours. They've only been generally accepted as such since the late 70s-early 80s.
The most usual colour for official purposes at the time was the same dark blue you see on the national flag.

Light blue for Australia may be acceptable.

Although, I'd prefer black & white stripes.

That's the modern RAAF ensign. specific to air units, but even that's a stretch.

Refer also to http://www.rabbitohs.com.au/
Not only have you chosen the wrong colours, (red & green are the ones you want!) but you've got the stripes going the wrong way AND you've picked the wrong code!

(Cough - ballet dancers! AHEM!)

oh no...
here we go.

Melbourne V Sydney
-option 1) this thread gets completely hijacked, and eventually locked. (apologies BBMike)
-option 2) we rant about AFL vs League, to which only Aus. Folk would have a clue over....which continues into option 1.
-option 3) settled in PBEM grudge match of custom scenario/ custom map... AFL Army vs League Army.
...I stop now.

P.S. League = No necked Neanderthals, that consider a crowd of 10,000 a blockbuster. Who capitulate to banana benders. As for the Russell Crowe's (rhyming slang), red and green stripes looked better on Beetlejuice.

Again Apologies BBM, I like your counter mod. Keep up the good start.

I did a test run new counters with the country colors taken directly from the game (countries.cvs). The only two that I think are too close are Australia and Philippines. The third column contains unused colors that could be used for one or both of these countries. Let me know what you think.

I would switch the colors for the Allies and the USA> I prefer the green for the USA and blue for the Allies.

Seems like most counter mixes have UK as brown/khaki and the US as army green. Japan a lighter shade of khaki, thus yellow.

Whatever you choose, this mod is a great idea, and well done.

Having no experience with such modding, this may be impossible, but have you considered making the backgrounds just a bit transparent, while retaining the effect of highlighting the sprite figures?

Ok, based on feedback I've released version 1.1. The new country colors/counters are in a screenshot in the first post.

That is possible. I'll have to try it and see how it looks.

This is a really clever idea, (I wish I'd thought of it.)
and a really elegant solution, taking the sprite graphics and putting them on counters is genius.
They remind me a little of the SC1 counter sets.
Do you mind if I try another variation on this?

Agent S,
Thanks!
Yes, feel free to create new unit icons based on this. More unit icons = a good thing.
