ORIGINAL: BASB Actually my experience goes further, I had the misfortune to buy from gamersgate, who debited my CC at the time of purchase, after some serious whinging, Muzzy Lane promised to let me into to their Beta testing, before the initial beta release. Well after about 2/3 weeks I finally got my hands on the beta and was placed on their beta forum, about 2 weeks before the official beta release. Initially couldn't get passed 300 turns and every time a new version was D/L the entire 700 megs had to be D/L each time, so it cost me more the the initial price. I think I have D/l the game in excess 12 times, one royal pain in the the butt. I'm cured forever when it comes to pre-releases. This game looked promising, but it certainly not playable right now in my opinion. Sounds like a lot of work:) I got into the beta on the first day of the public beta release back in May. I was astonished to see how many issues were still present, even though at that time they planned to release on May 25th. Even after they pushed it back to June 22nd, I still scratched my head on how they were going to accomplish that, which in the end I guess we found out, they were going to release whether it was working or not.....and for most, it wasn't working:( I really found it hard to believe it had been in development for so long and delayed a few times and the game was still in bad shape. I have come to expect games being released with a number of issues, but I have never personally seen one in this bad of shape and the developers freely admitting it was released broken and without features included. If you read the forums, there are only a few people that have ever been able to complete a game yet. The people I feel most sorry for are those who purchased it on release day without any intent to be a beta tester, especially if they are the type who don't frequent forums or bought the physical copy. Although I really want this game to succeed because I want to like it, some day developers are going to have to take responsibility for doing stuff like this and maybe there will have to be a sacrifical lamb like this company to make other companies think different in the future about releasing a game like this. It would be different if they labeled their products with a warning sticker "Buyer beware: game is being released in unfinished state. What you are purchasing is our promise to eventually fix things." Another thing that has killed me about this is everyone (including the developers themselves) always saying they are a "small company" and should in essence be cut slack. I hate when they say that. I don't care the size of the company since either way they are taken and spending my money and I expect the product to be of quality regardless. Sure, I might give the "small guy" a little more slack, but nowhere the slack this one is asking. Not sure why we should ever cut the developers a break since they don't ever treat their customer's differently based on their capabilities. For example, should we expect the developers to have a different price for customers who can't afford the game at its current price versus those that can? That would never happen so why should we cut them slack based on their size? Everyone should soley be judged based on the quality of the product provided. End of rant....sorry. I so agree with you! I am so sick of game companies / publishers ripping customers off. And treating their customers like criminals with their "DRM/Copy protection". I have stopped buying games at the time of release. Usually I buy now games a) when there are already some patches out or more often b) when they are in the <20$ basket. I do not buy single player games where I have to get a Steam account (no Steam bashing intended, just me :) ), be online all the time or register online (break this rule sometimes :) ). Bad luck for me...me missing out on some games I really wanted to have. The only exception of my buying habit is here with Matrix. And I do not say this to get on their good side. But this is the only Game Publisher / Game Company I have found so far, where I feel that I am fairly treated. Of course there where also problems with some of their games, but I do not feel/never felt abandoned. All issues get a response, are followed up. That's why I still stick around! @: Matrix for being an outstanding, positive example in this "rip off" industry:
