This is 1 map from BO..(map Gavrus.) Me the Germans VS the AI US.

The map started very quiet nothing was on screen or the mini map.
I decided to try my luck & shoot at the Church building to see if any one was at home.
I used a ( SS 88mmPak43 ) - Left Yellow dot).
At the same time 2 Shock teams sneaked there way from the south to the edge of the tree line.
Just in time to spot a sherman making it's way between the houses, followed by a Half Track.
I brought my Jagdpanther to greet it (purple dot + line south)....it did the job, killing it quickly then takeing out the crew.
The left (SS 88mmPak43 ) would kill the Half Track...then i turned the AT on the houses.
At the same time my Shock troops fired into the buildings as well, killing off the remainig AI Infantry in that area.
In the centre Coming from the North were 2 teams of soliders..they would come down the hedgerow white X's.
I decided to harras them with 80mm GrW Mortar rounds. Then finish them off with the Jagdpanther.
That first shot into the church hit something...i could hear the yells..Bliss.
This got the attention of a Sherman Calliope....my shock troops & SS sMG34 are placed right infront of it's LOS...in the trench. ( 2 right blue dot's ).
The shock troops have AT capability but they could not harm it.
Luckly it came out a little to far. I roasted it with a 88mm Pak 43..right yellow dot.
At the same time that started to move a M 36 Jackson popped on the mini map right bellow my Konigstiger ..( Purple dot North + line ).
It moved south east,i followed it with the Konigstiger..it would stop just inside the opening of 2 hedgerows.
I caught up to it..much to my surprise a Sherman 76 was there as well...i have no idea where the hell it came from.
The Konigstiger would kill the Jackson & then the Sherman, just in time as it was trying to drill my 2 teams in the trench.
Now a Pershing came into view ( Northwest red dot + line )....it started to move towards the NorthWest VL.
Placed there are Top NorthWest 1 SS sMG34..below that a Pionierebefehl Team (Engineers).
To the right of the SS sMG34 are my Zugfuhrer & a Schutzen team (rifle Inf).
The Pershing would come down the middle it would take too long to get a tank there in time.
It fired at the sMG34 team..some wounded but none dead..saved by a tree. Haha for pine!!
I had snuck my Pionierebefehl team close enough to have a pop at it they let rip doing sod all.
It ripped them apart ..i brought the Schutzen team down near it.
Hopeing to pull it's attention away from the Pionierebefehl...no luck this time.
The four leaf clover had run out..they were all killed.
A few of the Schutzen group died but most of them survived.
It made no difference the Pershing would not take the VL..as the timer ran out..a win for me!!

Beeblebrox's Bastards, determined to establish a beachhead to the North of Omaha Beach, rallied themselves for a pincer movement to try and surround the enemy and push inland. The right and left flanks launched their attacks in a pincer movement hoping to catch the enemy off guard. But whoa! Where did all that German armour come from? It's a good thing that this is not open country so we can get to engage at close quarters and have some chance of taking them on equal terms.

Sallying forth with 2 Sherman 76's, a Command Sherman 75, and some beefy Assault squads, they plunged into the fray. The infantry tasked with securing the buildings while the armour manouevered to try and engage and nuetralise the German armour. Holy crap! 2 Panthers, 2 PzKwIV's, and a JagdPanzer IV. All quite capable of demolishing our small troop of Shermans. Suddenly the air was rent with screaming and the sound of High Explosive. The infantry had walked into a trap and soon were getting seven tons of crap beaten out of them. The Battlegroup Commander, not shy of getting into the thick of it also took a pasting, Commander Beeblebrox himself only just surviving, getting wounded in the process.

Almost outnumbered 2 to 1 in armour, the 76's stood back and tried to take out any Panzers that came into sight, but we had to take the initiative if we were to secure the objective. The Panthers were going to be trouble if we could only take them head on. Eventually, all the German armour was taken out, but at the cost of both Sherman 76's. The Command Sherman survived and was able to turn the tide by providing close infantry support which finally broke the remaining enemy who fled the battle. We took a a mauling though!

Gradually the pincer closed. Facing more Panthers, PzKwIV's, and a King Tiger! Fortunately, the King Tiger decided to start one of the battles in the centre of a small village occupied by infantry, and with hedgerows all around, we were able to bring up 2 Pershings and a Command Sherman 76 to within 50 metres before it spotted us, and by then it was too late. Ka-boom! With that, the enemy's enthusiasm seemed to vanish, and the final battle to close the ring was complete. Now our forces could take on the surrounded enemy Sectors with less risk, and able to rest the Units that had taken so much punishment during the engagements.

Beeblebrox's Bastards dug in to lick their wounds, and prepare for more action to come...

Indeed, but I#ll take whatever the Force Pool has to offer in the meantime...

btw, any chance of a gander at the Server setup.txt and maps.txt?

Yes, there is a relationship between some of the settings in the setup.txt file on the Server, and the way CoI is configured when building the CCStart File, and the way the CCStart file is created is important too. The influence is (CC) System wide, so as this is a Mod that is being used, any Core file changes may impact as to what happens in the Campaign.

Yes, I agree. The only show stopper so far is the Map thing (causing the Java Exception).

I wondered if you had any thoughts about play balance? My first impressions of the early stages are that the Axis Battlegroup can get weighted too strongly and perhaps there should be an adjustment to this?

Within a few battles after hitting the beaches, the Axis had multiple Panthers, PzkwIV's, JagdPanzer IV's, and even a King Tiger (I never saw more than 1 though). My feeling is that is is bit early to get such heavyweight Axis Forces. But that's only my own feeling.

What does anyone else think? (about play balance in general)...

It's a lovely Strat Map. Who made it? I like the look of that sort of thing for my own developments...

Straight away from the off the 128mm FH K-44 comes into view.
Along with 2 sets of Inf.
The AT gun doesn't get the chance to take a shot.
Hit by the North East Sherman & my own AT gun.
The South East Sherman DD + Recon Inf Fire on the German Inf.
Along with the two North East Mortar Teams.
Not long after that the first sight of German armour comes into view.
Kept safe between the houses..it has a clear LOS to my AT.
I quickly turn the North East Sherman on it,along with my AT gun.
It gets the shot off first hiting my AT men...2 injured but none dead.
I throw some Mortar rounds at it & place Smoke in its view.
My Sherman takes a shot...hits but no damage, the tank backs off.
I take my Sherman DD towards the 128mm FH K-44.
Straight away a Command Team appears, the Sherman DD finishes them off.
Then it grabs the VL & heads South to meet the other Teams...
Who are now going towards the Hedgerow.
The South East Sherman Gets the first sight of the enemy.
2nd line Inf....my Recon team & Bazooka team follow close to the Sherman.
Ersatzpioniere are near...to close for my liking.
They get a shot off hiting the Sherman, 1 man injured & the tank damaged.
The sherman continues to fire...i rush the Recon & Bazooka Teams close.
The Sherman DD is now safely out of the LOS..so can now lend assistance.
The german armour did try for a shot at the Sherman DD.
But quickly backed off again.
The german Inf is quickly killed & no others appear in range.
Back at the North East i start to move my 3 Sherman's & Inf.
As soon as i get near the hedgerow more 2nd line inf appear.
A few shots later & they surrender...not much of a fight.
I continue to move the North East Team North West.
The South East Team moves South West.
I use my Recon Team to Sneak to the 2nd VL in the field.
They grab the VL & sneak back....very Uneventful.
That's it....all over..time has run out.

A nice easy win...this is early on with a team that's had 3 battles.
So things should heat up...over the next few games.

Me the US.... AI Germans.
Starting placement in pic.

The starting VL's places me right next to the germans.
A small map ideal for quick battles.

From the go...we have german armour right in view & Inf.
A StuH...not strong but enough of a threat to sherman DD's.
Close to the road second pic...Ersatzmfantrie come into view.
I attack them with my engineers
The StuH begins to attack the Assault team.
No LOS from my Sherman or Sherman DD's..yet!!!
I move my bazooka team towards the armour...& slowly edge the sherman DD with them.
At the same time moving the other 2 Sherman DD's Closer.
They come accross the road without incident..nothing seen along the way.
A mark IVH comes into view & appears to move away.
I stick a few mortar rounds on top of the StuH.
The StuH falls for the bait & slowly comes towards the bazooka team.

The StuH turns to attack the sherman...it's now caught.
2 shermans 1 sherman DD & my bazooka team attack it.
The armour gets a few shots off before it's done.
Disabling the sherman, but it should be safe there between the hedges.
The sherman continues to fire & kills the tank crew.
The Mark IVH has popped back into view along now with a Stug.
2 more Mark IVH appear on the road below...Ahhhhh how many more.
Shots come from the hedge & field near the Stug & Mark IVH.
I take the Bar team near the Sherman & move them into the building.
In the hope of getting LOS on whats fireing from that direction.
The Bar team come under a fair amount of fire.
Inf are on the hedge right next to the VL...so what else is there..???
I move my Bazookka team towards the Mark IVH..hopeing to get a sneeky shot off.
At the same time fireing off more mortar at the Stug & Mark IVH.

I move 1 Sherman DD around the back of the Bar team.
A bad idea this turned out to be.
A shot comes from the field hits the sherman DD.
It's done for..i try to pull whats left of the crew to the other side of the hedge.
Damn my sherman was hit...i was busy trying to save the Bar & Sherman DD.
I have no idea what hit it....
I start to move my Engineer team fireing at the Ersatzmfantrie across the road.
I leave the recon team to mop up whats left of the the Ersatzmfantrie.
German Mortar takes out my M20 & then the 57mm AT gun.
2 AT men left alive.
The bazooka team get off 1 shot at the Mark IVH.
Nothing happens,oh dear....they are ripped apart by the mark IVH.
Quickly i place 1 sherman DD to take the german Inf out.
The guy's on the corner of the hedge & the 2nd storey building.
I now have my engineers across the road.
And they can come straight through the 2nd storey building
I take them into the building near the Stug.
They hit the Stug..it's gone...but the Mark IVH now has it's revenge.
The engineer team is KIA...for the price of 1 Stug...
Time for another go...this time with my Assault team & Flame Dude.
The Assault team draw the fire of the Mark IV.
Flame dude start to cook...mmmm crispy!!!
Booom it's gone.
Next to the german VL in the pic is 1 german Inf with a panzershreck.
Mmm maybe he got the Sherman DD on the corner..????

Time to move the Attack team into the building next door.
I bring both sherman DD's down towards the field.
At last i can get rid of the Heavy MG.
Kill off whats left of the German Inf around that area.
The Attack team kills a few German Inf..but gets pinned by the Mark IVH.
More men dead...the mark IVH inflicting heavy losses.
It comes up close enough for me to try FLame dude one last time.
I run my flame dude out far enough just to roast it.
Quickly rushing him back into the building after the jobs done.
The 2 Sherman DD's mop up around the VL.
That's it after the Mark IVH went boom the germans gave in.
