Any ideas about this error? Is it something on my end that I have to correct?

The game does not actually ABEND/terminate. It will keep working if I am willing to put up with an unwanted windows screen in the middle that I cannot close without closing the game.

Something I can do with this. **** Description: Stopped working

Something has caused the program to get an error. It may keep playing for awhile before it dies.

It is best to exit the program and restart.

It has happened to me a few times with 1057 but I can't see anything about how to pass this info on to the devs.

Unless he hired someone since, that seems unlikely on a released game, there is only one dev on this game. And this is definitely the place to pass him information, has he did respond on this forum a couple of times.

The game exceptions are tending to happen more often now. Play about 30 minutes before it gets a different error.

Problem is how to save/diagnose the issues. I will start to take a note of the exception messages from now on in case there is a common thread.

Have you tried checking your RAM?  This game does use a lot of it and a bad sector in somewhere could cause a lot of problems.

** Have you tried checking your RAM? This game does use a lot of it and a bad sector in somewhere could cause a lot of problems. **

I do not think so. I have a lot of memory intense games, and did not get this... Good thought though...

** System.IndexOutOfRangeException ** This may point to the application using an indexed variable or maybe an index file. (Did some coding in my day) I simply do not have tools or the knowledge of this specific application to run down what it might be.

** Problem is how to save/diagnose the issues. I will start to take a note of the exception messages from now on in case there is a common thread.** I like your idea. I will set up another THREAD where we can have folks upload their exception messages and maybe see if there is something common.

This particular exception is thrown when the program attempts to access a collection's item with an erroneous index. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/3zwz4dx3.aspx It seems very likely to be a real bug. Very unlikely anyway, that it would be a memory hardware error. I don't think windows memory allocation is that predictable that you would get the very same bug each time you start the game if it was the case. It is possible your saved game has a particular rare data configuration that was not well planed by the programmer, in which case restarting a new game is likely to free you from this problem. Note that if you had the game patched without prior uninstall and manual delete of the game directory (don't worry, the saved games are not stored there), it seems that there is a problem with the installation program, and it happens that the game ends with a mismatched set of executable files, that could very well cause that kind of problem, even if it will cause more often to get a "entry not found" kind of crash.

Well, I went through my files... the only one that might have given some thing like that code is that on the comma delimited star system name text file, I had a comma on the very last name. Perhaps it was reading the last non-existent name. Although the original file for DW had this too and it did not blow up the game.

I will fix it and see if it corrects the problem...

Hi there, thanks for that report.

Can you please upload your savegame where this error occurs?

Thanks Elliot

Yes, the saved game file is HUGE, 7 or 8 megs... But next time it occurs, I will save the game.

Offtopic:  Huge is such a 'relative' term, when you consider that Empire:Total War save files usually run in the half gig range.

Using 1.0.5.8, I got a crash after about 1 and 1/2 hours of continual play. Definitely better than I was getting with 1057. The save is like 7MB (7796K).

I have added the crash view; it does seem to have trampled on some memory. But the interesting thing is that it keeps running for awhile before it just dies without warning.

Is there a error report generated to show the exception details?

Missed that about the FTP site.

I reloaded my autosave from before the error, but this time it did not occur. The autosave is every 20 minutes but I obviously didn't run the exact same commands in the next period before the following autosave.

Because this is a real-time game, it will be hard to catch the 'before' event in a save. A save immediately after it happens (while the game is still active); will it still give an indication of what data may have failed ????

Okay it blew up again

I tried to make the file name of the dump and the save name similar... but if not the error that goes with the save game is below. It should blow up immediately. (At least I caught it)

This game blew up again under 1.06. Do you need me to upload the latest and greatest blow up?  Or can you use the one I already provided?

Okay, you can delete this Forum if you wish.  I identified the problem.  WHY?  That is another question.  It did not like my design list design.txt file.  I cannot identify the issue.  But I care little about technology names, so I reverted back to the base game.  It cleared this crash.     Thank you for your patience.
