Any direct knowledge or even speculation on where SPWaW is going from here (here being defined as Version 4.4)? In my opinion an absolutely great game and incredible effort by all involved. It would be real shame not to try and get as close to perfection (i.e., resolve all major bugs)as possible......especially for the sake of those who have put so much into it.

i don't think the game can go much further development wise. its just about as close to perfection as is possible, sans those pesky coding bugs, for any steel panthers gamer. whats next are the projects matrix will be coming up with. should be some good ones too.

This is correct, we have pushed the engine right to edge of the envelope. The future is to now go back to the drawing board and try to jump ahead. That will take time though... We are supporting a group that is working on the Modern version, but that will be a while. So for now that is where new features will go, SP:WaW will be in bug elimination mode for a while. We are working hard to get our "real" games together. Some new, some improvements to existing, but lessor known games. We should have the schedule for next year a bit less nebulous before Christmas. These things are very fluid though, so bear with us as the plan makes contact with reality [This message has been edited by Paul Vebber (edited December 01, 2000).]

paul, i remember seeing your name and postings on the AOL gaming boards for steel panthers (keith h. pretty much ran the SP forums) and close combat. remember when SSI used to have actual tech guys answering questions before AOL started charging them to be there? that was a long time ago. for anyone with AOL that is interested, you should be able to pull up posts that go back for a few years.

That seems like a past life Col Now SSI, like Avalon Hill, are simply Trademarks, the creative forces behind them stripped off...

Paul, is there any chance that Matrix Games upgrade SP3 now that SPWAW development is more or less complete?

I eagerly await Matrix Games new developments, and I am quite happy to use SPWAW while these go through the long development process. I hope that we, the fans, will be given updates on these projects and their features. In the mean time, though, I hope that the AI bug that screws up AI defence after turn 6 or 7 is fixed soon. I have stopped playing because it is causing me too much anger, and ruining too many games. ------------------ Fabs

Just to re-iterate my original point.... i have played so many different turn-based WW II games, and, in my opinion, this is truely a masterpiece in the making. I only hope that Matrix Games intends to resolve all of the bug issues so that this gem can be taken to completion. Again, my thanks to all involved.

While I can't rule anything out (never say never) - with SP:MW development just out of the blocks, it will be a looong time before the opportunity to do anything with SP3 at its original scale will arise, and by thne it may be OBE.

Well guys. I guess that with the holiday period rushing down on us again, all that we can do is sit on Santas knee and hope that somewhere in that list of 'private' forums one of them is Matrix's all new, all singing, all dancing 'son of Steel Panthers'! The game that will be everything SPW@W is and isn't! A whole new engine which will cater for the every whim of us 'demanding gamers, and which will be wholey owned by Matrix so that we can finally start paying them for all their hard work!

Well, they certainly deserve to be paid. All we can do now is simply let them know how much their efforts are truely appreciated!!!

That's a right point of view...and maybe it's time for us (we , the supporters !!) to do something to help that... First of all I hope this could became a common feeling to all of us that are enthusiasted by SPWAW...and what is more I have a dream...Matrix Games finding a way to transform SPWAW in a commerciable product... something like 'question' of honour for them !!
