I already shared my strategies for early play as USA, so it's time for Japan.

Usually I don't bother about an of those tiny Islands, east of Philippines.
What I focus on is to get Philippines as soon as possible, then moving south to Borneo, DEI and then turning west to India.
I'm trying to send some weak motorized units to China, to deal with partisans.

PP shortage always put me before a choice, should I bought couple of armored divisions that helps to conquer enemy territory or should I buy some carriers to keep my earnings safe.

Most of the time I'm getting tanks, and later in the game pay the price.

What are your strategies?

I have followed the same early strategy, with the exception of buying expensive units like armor and carriers. Japan can't support its troops and air units in the field properly by doing early buying.

After supporting the offensives/landings, I concentrate on repairing ships/carriers and establishing air recon and a defensive perimeter in the Pacific.

This is right, Japan has to make many choices and one mistake costs a lot. If I didn't captured India and east Australia early, I was never able to hold whole China and all other early war conquered territories longer than end of 1944. US war potential is to high.

Playing against the Jap AI I suspect it doesn't focus on repair and keeps losing major naval units - as a player I would suggest avoiding this as sea supremacy allows the allies to show up pretty much anywhere.

For Japan you have alot of options and delima's.

How to attack and with what force.

Allocation and timing is important.

Reinforcements.. What to do with PP's.

There are 5 area's and the 6th and 7th long term goals.

China
Pearl and East
Philippines
Borneo and Java
Indonesia
