ORIGINAL: sprior Oh yeah, and thanks for diverting British troops away from Europe so napoleon could hang on to power longer! Very welcome, I'm sure. A sentiment not shared by the remaining 2 or 3 historians who realize this was not the first, nor would it be the last, war instigated by that pack of pinched nosed, money grubbing, brainless, bible pounding, self important, self righteous, God's self annointed scourge, from the New England colonies. But hey .. so long as somebody else's militia is getting shot, what do those self righteous swine care. WRONG!WRONG!WRONG! New England didn't want the war, they were trading with the Canadians and Brits, and making damned good money at it. Madison had to send the Navy to Maine and Massachussets to stop the trade. New England was so upset they tried to succeed. To this day the war of 1812 is known in New England as "Mr. Madison's War". I have never heard the war of 1812 referred to as "Mr. Madison's War" and I've lived in New England almost my entire life. I think most people don't even know what the war of 1812 was it is a forgotten war.
