I use the upgrade option of the ship design screen, and so get designs like "snorbluk Mk 5". The ships based on those design are often called this themselves. I mean literally "snorbluk Mk 5" without numbering or so. Not all the time, but almost.

For anything up to the size of a destroyer, the naming is "Name 001" etc. For cruisers and capital ships, the class name is also the name of the first ship of that class produced, and the remainder are assigned random names. So unless you change the class name from "name.Mk5", that will be the name of every ship of the class (if DD or smaller) or the first ship of the class (for CA/BB)

I support the idea of allowing individual naming of ships as a new feature, but I think what you are describing is not a bug.

Thanks for the infos. The thing is, when I upgrade old ships, they keep the old names, and that is quite misleading to have a ship named "Cruiser Mk 3" being in fact a "cruiser Mk 11". Seeing how I use my ships, I probably should use overgrown escorts as destroyers, overgrown frigates as cruisers and overgrown destroyers as capital ships... Note that I also noticed this problem with troop transports. What is strange about troop transport, too, is that in spite I use unarmed troop transports, they tend to try attacking nearby enemies... I could change their behavior from the design screen, of course, but still, it should not happen.

yes, I can definitely see how what you describe would be a problem. I have similar issues with upgraded ships keeping their old names. I hope it is something that they work on in the future, I would just make sure that your suggestion goes in the wishlist thread as it might get lost here.
