Last night I attempted to open SPWAW to continue a game I had been playing a day or two before. I had used the program that day too, but it wouldn't open at all.
I tried the start menu, then the game menu, then went into the folder and tried that. Nothing, it doesn't even register that the program is running. For a second or two after you try to open it, it seems like it's going to start because you see that quant little windows flag flapping next to your mouse icon, but nothing after that. I attempted to close it because I thought it wasn't responding but SPWAW didn't even show up as a program that was running.
I've reinstalled the game twice and still no luck. Near then end of the installation it says I have to make room on my C drive because there isn't enough space, although there is a free 2 gigs. Then it encounters a problem that says something along the line of the starting movie has a decompression problem, and it doesn't matter if you try to retry it, it doesn't work. And apparently ignoring it doesn't work either.
What baffles me here is that I install the game before and it worked fine, and I played it that day that it stopped working! I didn't do anything major, I think I downloaded 2 or 3 mp3's and that's it.
Suggestions, ideas? So thanks in advance if you can help me out or even if you just read this.

What version of SPWAW were you running? Try deleting this file steel.prf in the :\MatrixGames\Steel Panthers World at War\save directory and then try to restart SPWAW. Try running the game directly from the mech.exe file within this same directory. You said you tried reinstalling the game twice, did your try uninstalling first then reinstalling, because if you didn't if you have a corrupted file, during the reinstalling the installation will see the files present but won't replace it, meaning your stuck with the corrupted file. It sounds like the vid998.smk file might be corrupted which is a 62mb video file that SPWAW needs to start. Did you disassociate *.wav files with your sound card somehow, because SPWAW needs a sound card to run and if doesn't have anything to associate it's sounds to it won't start. Try these and keep me informed.

Thank you for your speedy response! Deleting the steel.prf file seemed to do the trick.

Many thanks my friend.

No problem that's what I'm here for. If you ever run into something causing the game to act erratically or strangely, delete this file when you restart SPWAW and change anything in the preference screen this file will automatically be recreated.:D
