Hi,

I'm looking to start a new game vs the AI (with some boosts to it in terms of fuel/supply etc) as I don't have time for a PBEM yet. Am I correct in thinking that the AI will probably make a better job as Japan? My thinking being it is on the attack at the start and then basically sits and holds till I get enough oomph to fight back.
I can see it struggling more as the Allies having to build up forces, launch amphib ops etc especially if I took some more unusual places as the Japanese.

Appreciate the AI is always going to be a limited challenge but want to get the best out of it. I stopped my first proper go vs AI Japan when I started to roll it back easily.

Thanks!

Why not the far side?

Personally, I think that you might find playing Japan more challenging since the Allied AI will keep getting stronger as the years pass. Especially if you go into the editor and enable re-spawning for the Allies.

If you play within reasonable strategies then the AI seems to hold up alright. Plus, playing as Japan you have plenty of opportunity the handicap yourself by making mistakes managing your resources and industry.

In either case, no matter which you choose, I am certain you will enjoy the depth and breadth of the game. Good luck!

IMO, It wouldn't feel right to allow the AI to conquer territory that could have been easily defended. I just finished a game against the Japanese AI, and I played until June 1943. The trouble was that after mid 42, it just wasn't challenging. So I would say you could either play several shorter campaigns as the allies in which you try to hold onto an "unholdable" base, like somewhere in the Philippines or Malaya, or play as Japan and have fun. I started a thread a while back on which fun strategic target to pick as Japan, and there are definitely plenty of options.

Try Andy Mac's newest version of Ironman. It is one tough SOB.

You would think that playing Japan would be tougher, but I don't think the Allied AI is that strong. I think the enhanced Japan scenarios are the best vs the AI.
