I'm working on a new project. It's pretty large and I'm not sure when I'll finnish it...could be quite some time. However, I thought I would make the map availble for folks out there to use, as I put a fair bit of work into it and I think it's pretty decent. So if anyone would like to use it for thier scenerios or just to tinker around with...feel free. It is uploaded to the AT scenerio bank...(http://www.advancedtactics.org/scenario.php?nr=117)

It's a base map of Europe from Portugal to the Urals (220 x 160) and includes parts of North Africa and the Middle-East. It uses all vanilla AT terrain, so should be pretty adaptable for designers. I marked the cities (there are a ton of them) with Urban terrain but didn't put in the location types, so people are free to adapt those to whatever scenerio they wish to put together. Will post more info on the scenerio I created for when work is further along. Enjoy.

Looks nice, will take a loook at it. But is that a forest where the Quattara depression is?

And what is the project?

So its 220*160. Thats 35200 hexes.

To compare with the standard european map used for the great war  etc. This is 80*60= 4800 hexes.

Quite a difference.

35200 hexes? That's uhm, quite impressive. So this certainly won't be an AI map, as the AI turn would take forever.

You're sure the file is okay? because I can't open the zip.file?
But maybe the problem is on my side.
by the way, not sure if this is a problem or not, but the file at the AT site is called: "....blabla. pt2", but it is a zip file.
pt2 files can be directly installed, whereas zipfiles have to be unzipped first.

Josh,

It's a regular .pt2 file...not a zip file. You should be able to install and use it directly. Some OS's seem to think that .pt2's are zips and try to treat them like they are...not sure why...but it should work if you just download it and try to load it as a scenerio.

Grymme,

That's actualy swamp used to represent the Quattara, it was the closest thing I could come up with from AT's standard terrain set. The scenerio I'm making will have custom terrain, including the Quattara...but for purposes of making the base map available to others to play around with, I decided to just use the regular terrain that comes in AT.

Are you using a new email provider ? or a new OS ? I've had both these make trouble in the past. You just have to unpack the file even though it's not zipped and then it seems to work ok.

The files are encrypted so the file scanners think they are zipped.

Its a great map :) Really big, and fun to explore. I think I might use it at some point... however i do feel that it lacks Iceland, the Faeroe Islands and Shetland Islands...

I agree that its a great map overall, but as Ernieschwitz points out it lacks some detail, especially around the edges. What map did you use to overlay? In case someone else might want to add detail?

For example i migth want to add some greek islands and some detail in the mideast and north africa. The southern/eastern parts do look a little lonely.

I got the overlay off of Google. Don't remember the exact URL but I can e-mail it to you if you want?  I left off Iceland and some of the outlying islands as I wasn't going to use them in the scenerio I'm working on. Shouldn't be to tough to add them in, if somebody wants them.

Yeah the edges are a bit low on detail. The southern edge is basicaly Saharan Africa though...not alot of detail there beside sand. I probably could have done a little bit more around the Urals though and the eastern edge.

Thanks for this map, and any others which add to it.

Does anyone think a 10km/hex map is possible covering all of Europe and be playable in AT II?

I can post a link to the mapfile of the "resting" project with roughly the same idea that I on with Bartheart et al. Just need to find it. We had Iceland implemented as well as resource hexes for the US, India and Australia/New Zealand. Just need to find the files :-)

EDIT: Found it. Not the latest build, but has the map and a bunch of other stuff: http://www.kodapa.com/development/kodapa_projects/hypowar/builds/HypoWarEurope001_build1.zip
