Starting to get settled, Steve?

Pretty much. In another month things should be just about finished. Planning a visit out this way Pers?

Nice . I'll probably go for a holiday to the states next summer. Nebraska is not on the list, though. I am thinking of spending a week in Las Vegas and then follow that up with a visit to a friend of mine in San Antonio that served together with me in Kosovo.

No NYC?!?!?!?!?! Blasphemy!!!! Sacrilege!!!!

I can offer steak, corn, wonderful beer, airplanes, cowboys and corn fed girls. Yuri can offer smog, dangeous drivers, high costs and taxes and rude people. Tough choice!

You had ME at beer. Speaking of which-do you have any dates in mind for the Nebraska WiTP/AE get together?

I can be somewhat flexible, I don't have a teaching schedual. If you can include some dates good for you with the next turn, lets see what we can work out. Then we'll open it up to everyone else.

It would have been a good investment at twice the price.

Have only been to the US twice. Boston 2002 and LV/SA (like above) in 2007. Doubt there is anything to see in NY ...

I'd opine that the Met, Central Park, NY Phil and just that NYC je ne sais quoi would be worth the trip.

In some parts of the country, yes.

Absolutely! Why do you think I said them!

Because youre still pissed about getting stuck in the middle of nowhere and you miss the urban splendor of DC.

Is it true that Spain applied for Marshall aid after the war? Do you guys know?

Spain didn't participate in WW2, so why should it receive help?

Even the Soviet Union was invited to the Marshall Plan, but it was obvious that Stalin would refuse help for the SU, and with it the entire eastern bloc. Nevertheless, at first Poland and Czechoslovakia intented to participate - but then Stalin summoned the Czechoslovakian foreign minister to Moscow, and suddenly they changed their mind...

I would venture to say that since 1945 Europe has probably had more than that in other programs. The question is "mom, after we lose our home , can we crash in your basement?".

Surprisingly , I've sleeping better , and more relaxed. I really think I needed the break from cities for a while. And Omaha is hardly a small town.

From my history studies I vaguely remember that the economic impact of the Marshall Plan was considerable, but not all-important. It had an immense psychological effect, though, as it signalled that the US would commit itself to the rebuilding of Europe. Before the Marshall Plan, no one could be sure whether it was worth investing in the European economy or not.

Also, the MP was the start of the European integration.

Well, there's plenty of Swedes up this way, sir. You would, of course, drop us a line were you in the area?

But of course. It's quite fascinating that roughly 25% (1.3 Million) people emigrated from Sweden to USA. Most of them settled down up where you live. Visiting ILL & WIS for that reason as well as trying to spot the swedish traces is on the list, if I ever do that cross-country trip. Thanks for the invitation.

Edited: Grammar.

I dont know if they declined or were not invited, but I dont think theres any shame in accepting aid after your nation's been devastated like no other country in the world. But thats just me.

I couldn't agree more! But apparently Stalin felt differently. And I'm sure Harry Truman was extremely relieved! It's hard to be old friends and give money when both sides have loaded guns pointed at each other and are ready to fight at the drop of a grenade!

Obviously they had some difficulty with geography! Or else someone told them they were moving to somewhere with better weather. Does Minnesoda mean "Next door to Florida?" Or where millions of Scandanavians actually saying "it's too warm here. Let's go somewhere colder and a whole lot nastier in winter!"?
