more is coming in, this time also some Beaufighters that obviously got lost... and now please tell me how it works to detect this raid 4min before they drop their bombs but the Tonies have 142 min time to reach interception... is this a joke or what? I guess the bombers donīt even need that long from their base to the target!

[

Hi Castor

You seem to be understanding the time for all groups to intercept as the time the code is giving to the defender as a warning.

My understanding of the 142 minutes is that it refers to the length of time needed for all the possible fighters to get into battle (scrambled or called in from elsewhere). In effect it means that (with only 4 minutes warning) most of these will not get into the fight. In effect the longer the 'time needed' compared to 'estimated time to target', the better for your bombers.

Hi

To be honest, Iīve asked myselve more than a dozen times already if Iīm just too stupid to understand what I read. Iīve never seen it from that perspective, it certainly makes sense. Thanks for the tip , Iīm definetely will have a close look on the issue in future.

1st May, another important date. The SBD-5 Dauntless (in big numbers) and the Helldiver (in smaller numbers) are available from now on. The Helldiver will be my preferred bomber for my carrier based bomber squadrons but it will take forever to equip them with this fine aircraft. The SBD-5 is no improvement at all over the SBD-3 so I wonder why I should upgrade the squadrons (other than to have more replacements), in fact, from the stats the SBD-5 is even worse than the 3. The Helldiver is the ultimate bomber though, it carries radar and gets two additional 250lb bombs to itīs 1000lb bomb. A month since the appearance of the Hellcat has passed and three VF squadrons are now flying this fighter, the rest of the available carriersī VF squadrons will be upgraded this month. Within the next six weeks, every carrier based fighter squadron will be upgraded to Hellcats (also the VR squadrons which I use for Cap only and not for replacement use, this gives me additional CVE with 28 fighters each, the bomber squadrons were sent ashore for training)

two USMC divisions plus two base forces are sent to Guadalcanal to take the island... with Munda already taken, Shortlands being in the process of bein taken and now Lunga under siege leaves Tulagi as the only enemy base with troops... no plans of taking this base though, two units reported there (small ones), no airfield, level 2 port... perhaps Iīm going to prep two rgt to take them out in a couple of months but Tulagi really is no threat...

this is the first amphib operation with APA, AKA and LST... itīs working wonderfully... at the end of the day, all troops and 20,000 supplies have been unloaded and both divs received 7-9,000 supplies, enough to take out the defenders...

note that we AGAIN face a division... two divs destroyed on New Guinea, one already destroyed in the Solomons with another one going to be destroyed here... four or five divs at Darwin and the enemyīs strenght in the Moulmein - Chian Mai area is further increasing, estimated enemy assault value is already around 8-10,000av. I beg your pardon for asking the same question again: "where are all these troops coming from?"... Donīt get me wrong, from a gameīs perspective Iīm happy to see that many enemy divs in Thailand because an Allied rush to Singapore in mid 43 is somewhat off IMO (itīs more than enough that taking Burma was that easy) but from the "wanting to win perspective" Iīm pretty much a big when it comes down to the huge number of enemy divs Iīm facing everywhere...

Sub slips beneath the waves

you should keep one thing in mind when using your DDs for ASW duty: EXPERIENCE... Iīve complained about my US DDs being more or less useless when attacking enemy subs while my British DDs were killers... the reason for this was more than obvious though, the overall higher exp of British DDs and me using lots of different US DDs in ASW TFs all the time... so Iīve focussed on using the same DDs in ASW TFs over a longer period (like the above one) and especially Meade and Dunlap increased their experience (eg. Meade by 8 points, night and day exp together). And it seems that there is a magic line in the code that makes ASW deadly while itīs useless before. A couple of points in exp seems to make a huge difference, this can also be seen in the huge step forward of IJN ASW on 1/1/43 when the ASW exp increases from 67% to 80% ASW exp (total exp as basis)...

the sub fired three! torp salvoes during the gun battle... all of them missed luckily... seems rather odd but so far a sub never has hit something in such a case in this PBEM...

no thank you, I wonīt put up Cap to be shot down in droves... our air offensive in Burma FAILED! 400+ fighters and something like 170 bombers werenīt enough to harm the IJAAF, with how the game is designed, the enemy just flew sweeps daily, leaves the airfields empty and makes landing on a ten times destroyed airfield possible which makes my bomber attacks useless... youīve got to Cap your bomber bases because you never know if your bombers fly or not and voila, not you are the one that hurts your enemy, but the enemy comes in and hurts you...

now we go back to what Iīve been saying for ages again, sweeps... stratosphere sweeps with Lightnings (and P-47 soon with three squadrons coming as replacements in the next 1.5 months)... then from time to time moving the bomber force to Burma to do a one day bomber offensive... means transferring some 40 squadrons back and forth from India to Burma everytime I decide to launch a raid... lots of work and pretty strange... but I am just not willing to throw away my airforce like many other Allied players seem to constantly do in their AARs for no gain in return... itīs a game, if the game forces you to play a command and conquer game then thatīs what Iīve got to do... unfortunetely...

these two sweeps on Toungoo would have been enough to knock out 50 of my fighters easily and without a working radar I wonīt get more fighters airborne when Iīve got 200 of them at the base... which means 50 being shot down by the sweeps, another 50 being destroyed on the ground if the enemy manages to bring a good number of bombers over the airfield... leaves me with flak, but flak is useless... more about that below...

and there you go! 86 enemy bombers coming in at 11,000ft, the standard attack alt for IJAAF bombers... Iīve got 150 heavy flak guns at the base (1 is disabled) and we claim the whopping number of two enemy bomber shot down by flak... Iīve said it before on the main forum, I can say it for a repeated time here in my AAR again, flak isnīt modelled correctly... and I sure stand by what Iīve said... itīs totally unrealistic to have that amount of flak guns at such a base in Burma but who cares, the gameīs routine for flak is even more unrealistic because not even that many guns do what 25% of them could do - force the enemy to a higher alt or cause serious losses...

Iīve pointed out on the main forum that Berlin had some 400-500 heavy flak guns at itīs peak in 44 so having 150 3.7 inch guns in a base somewhere in the Burmese jungel is off... even more off is the result of the flak fire against IJAAF bombers at 11,000ft... US heavy bomber crews didnīt like Berlin as a target because they knew this wouldnīt be a cakewalk but they were flying twice as high or higher and were flying in so called Flying FORTRESSES for example... I beg your pardon, but AFAIK the IJAAF bombers werenīt famous for being flying tanks ala IL-2... too me, flak is far from being correctly modelled, sorry to say that. Perhaps Iīm just wrong and thatīs perfectly realistic... I do know how the loss ratios in real life looked like though and I also know that there werenīt these UBER flak concentrations like Iīve got one here at Toungoo... heck, more than 50% of the available heavy flak in India has been put into Toungoo...

more enemy bombers, bringing the total numbers to 100+ today... roughly 2% lost to flak, sounds "reasonable" but only when you would have "reasonable" flak at the target... but having 150 3.7 flak guns at the target is NOT reasonable, therefore the result isnīt either...

we finally take the base... a tough nut to crack, took us weeks to do so and also took us four divisions... quite a force for such a target and it makes me sick already when Iīve got to think about targets like Rabaul with reported 30 units at the base... seems it doesnīt matter that they will be cut off for probably 6-8 months when weīre finally going to invade the place... going to finish off the Japanese here, then the troops will start prepping for the next target and will be brought back to Australia for R&R...

The SBD-5 is no improvement at all over the SBD-3 so I wonder why I should upgrade the squadrons (other than to have more replacements), in fact, from the stats the SBD-5 is even worse than the 3.

The SBD-5 has a radar. That's the main difference (apart from the loss of one hex range as you implied).

oh, must have missed that. That (perhaps) makes it a better choice over the SBD-3. No clue how much it influences finding the target though.

SS S-30

xAKL Tientsin Maru is sighted by SS S-30
SS S-30 attacking on the surface
Laing, F.W. decides to submerge SS S-30 due to damage

Excuse me, Iīm in total rant mode again today, perhaps itīs the weather, perhaps the constallation of Jupiter to Mars or perhaps itīs just bad luck that all those things keep on happening in my PBEM...

there was more than one thread on the forum about subs disbanding themselve into port due to "damage" and they do this very often due to only one or two points of sys or other damage. Now Don Bowen then told the op that this isnīt true and everything is working as designed (what actually isnīt wad in this game?) and subs wouldnīt do that with minimal damage. The op gave up pretty quick as he was obviously fighting Matrix windmills and I thought that "while the op is true and the dev is wrong, Iīve got enough problem with other game issues already that I donīt want to get involved in this one too". Now Iīve seen this happening dozens of times in this PBEM already, everytime thinking about the dev statement that this wonīt happen in the game. Everytime thinking "is it the same as with the air team lead, not having fired up the game for a looong time?". If a sub disbands itselve into port then itīs one thing, if subs constantly break off engagements due to damage that actually isnīt "real" damage then I call this yet another routine that either is broken, not wad, or the devs arenīt aware of how it is designed because the devīs statement about it would be that subs with minimal damage would press on.

NO, they donīt! This has happened often enough already in this game and it just plain sucks! Iīve got no problem to act as a kind of re-release betatester but what I find kind of odd is when I encounter not working things on and on when a dev seems to think it is working.

the way it is now, itīs saver for the enemy to run the convoys unescorted because an attack on the surface by my subs got a good chance to be broken off immedietely due to non existing damage. Or is anyone here thinking that 2 sys damage would be severe enough to break off the engagement after a single shot was fired???

why, oh why have I forgot to fly out all my fighters... or at least stand them all down... radar? British radar is a wet fart, am again claiming that this isnīt realistic... Akyab also got something like a dozen radar sets, none of them was able to spot anything... result is a pre warn time of 10 min, what a joke... donīt know what a realistic pre warn time would be to be honest but just look at the pre warning times you get when you are lucky to get a radar warning... as it stands now, my British radar sets fail 100% of the time... my understanding would be it could fail and did so in real life, wonder if a dozen sets at a single base would never pick up the enemy... probably not... radar being 100% useless in Burma is one reason why itīs impossible to put up Cap... impossible... and hey, the usual never ending DIVE, shooting down or damaging EVERY of my fighters, not a single Oscar was damaged or shot down... the dive? Yeah, when a dev thinks (and states on the forum) that this is the phase when the diving side takes out one, two or at best three of your fighters... lol... wad... 10 out of 19 fighters were destroyed, the rest was damaged... no loss on the DIVING side... perfectly works for both sides and Iīm doing the same with my Lightnings all of the time...

thatīs the last of the three dot bases South East of Darwin... Wessel Island is taken by a para unit, a USMC def btn is embarked on a landing craft convoy and will be landing here tomorrow... not that I would really fear an enemy counterinvasion but just to make sure... thatīs the second base being 8 hexes off Darwin and weīre going to build it up ASAP... at the moment I could bring 100+ Corsairs and the same number of torp carrying Beauforts to the party if the enemy decides to move ships to Darwin... I could back up these squadrons with another 100 B-25 all trained on low nav attacks, some 60 PB4Y trained on lownav and 150 USAAF 4E as "anti fighter escorts"...

regarding radar, during our last carrier engagements (and the small attacks on our carriers) we had prewarning times of 60min, the enemy had the same. With a dozen radar sets, we get prewarning of 10min, without any radar, the enemy gets 14 min over the Solomons so I expect radar to have totally failed when we get prewarnings around 10min.

How did the British fight the BOB? Did they have any working radar a year earlier than where we are now? Granted, proably different, static radar but why is all the radar in Burma totally useseless. Wonder what the land based US radar is worth.

Which British radar models are present at the airfields (CH, GL models, as part of the base forces)?

at Toungoo, Iīve got 4x GLI and 5x GLII

at Akyab, Iīve got 2x GLI, 11x GLII and 2x CH

at the surrounding bases like Pegu, Prome and Rangoon Iīve got another dozen of these different sets. So far, theyīve all failed. IIRC always.

flying lots of air attacks round the clock at the moment, stress on the heavies is pretty high... Iīve discovered something really concerning, while weīre getting a nice number of heavy bombers for the USAAF (48 a month) we are not going to get ANY medium bombers (NON attack bombers) for the USAAF... now Iīm glad to have attack bombers for anti shipping strikes but the only bombers I can use for ground attack missions will be the heavies as I canīt send the attack bombers to attack targets like Rabaul or Darwin because losses would just be too high at 100ft. And 100ft is the default attack alt for the attack bombers... Iīve more or less equipped all my anti shipping squadrons with attack bombers already but as soon as Iīm going to run out of B-26 and B-25C, I wonīt have any medium bomber squadrons left for ground attacks!!! Now I could use the attack bombers for ground attacks against lightly defended targets BUT that would mean I would have to train these guys on low gnd bombing too... Iīm a bit puzzled at the moment as my heavies wonīt be enough to suppress everything in range, I canīt even constantly suppress Darwin and Rabaul, using some 200 heavy bombers against both targets but there are just too many enemy troops and the airfields are up running again in no time...

these are the juicy targets that make me smile... especially when I see oil or fuel cargo burning as this usually means that a single hit would be enough to doom the ship... got the feeling that weīre doing good in sinking enemy tankers, on the other hand Iīve got no clue how many tankers are available for the enemy...

round the clock bombing... any player out there reading this AAR who suffers the same air attacks nearly daily on one of his troops who can give me some advice if these attacks got ANY effect? So far the enemy seems not to get any negative multipliers for disruption at all and it seems the attacks are completely useless... and this isnīt the first time weīre doing round the clock bombing of a target without noticing any effect... that we donīt cause casulties at all is one thing, but not causing any disruption is another thing...

itīs funny to see our adjusted av ONCE AGAIN being a complete joke and being only a third of the base av as usual... troops are fully prepped, this never seems to matter at all... again I can only say that I find this very odd, thereīs just no reason to always see this happening without having any negative multiplier... are the 38 enemy guns of an enemy that has been cut off and bombed for months that powerful that these super guns shred our adjusted av? pff...

on the other hand the enemy gets three negative multipliers but has his av multiplied by 10, resulting in a non combat worthy div getting an adjusted av, being the equivalent of 9!!! US divisions... the enemyīs ridicoulos adjusted av is by far not as concerning as the ongoing 1/3-1/2 adjusted av my troops are ALWAYS seem to get in my amphib invasions without getting any negative multipliers... having unloaded ample supply, being fully prepped and having excellent leaders of course wonīt lead to any positive multipliers either... funny ground combat routines but weīve been used to that since WITP anyway... I just donīt understand it though...

Do you think that using strategic bombers (4E's) in a ground attack role is realistic?
Historically 4Es were rarely used for this purpose; I can only think of a few

- Against major enemy strongholds (ala Monte Cassino which had fine little effect)
- Against German positions in Normandy (had an effect but caused more than a hundred US casualties)

With a bombing accuracy at less than a couple of kilometers it was very difficult to accurately hit enemy positions; area saturation was therefore the only option.

Bombing enemy bases is thus one thing, bombing frontlines were friendly and enemy troops are deployed within a few hundred meters of each other is a different matter as collateral damage would be a major issue.

In AE you _can_ use 10 B-24's to hit a contingent of 150 paras on an island and cause 94 casualties.
This is more than very questionable if you ask me

I think the terrain and fort adjusted defensive AV is a way to make ground combat against Japan more realistic.
In real life it took weeks to reduce major strongholds. As long as you cause enemy losses on a 1-1 scale or better you are bound to win in due time and then you can repair damage while the enemy troops will be destroyed.

I agree that fort and terrain modifiers are a bit extreme; when I play Japan I sometimes can remove 2 Chinese corps from a hex unless I bring 4-5 Jap divisions. Fighting the rather poorly trained and equipped Dutch in Bandoeng is another extreme; they hold out for ages against vastly superior troops.

Everything is a trade of; make it this way and China will fall within 6 months - make it that way and the Allies can capture islands and atolls much easier than in real life. Finding a balance is very challenging.

To me it looks like you're well ahead of schedule already though!

well, other than heavies there is NOTHING left I could use after the B-25C and B-26 pool is used up. Guess you wonīt advise me to use attack bombers against ground targets? This is AE and not real life. Iīm surely going to try it but I guess after doing it twice or perhaps three times I will come up with the conclusion that itīs not worth seeing 5 out of 20 bombers ending up in balloon cables during each mission. As you could see, I was usually using medium bombers in ground attack role. With ground attack Iīve also meant airfield and port attacks though, guess you wonīt have an issue with 4Es bombing bases. But thatīs what also is going to be a problem with 4Es the only "level" bomber available. Talking about the USAAF.

In AE you can use 500 4Es to hit a construction rgt in a jungle hex and cause 12 casualties too. Or 1000 bombers and you cause 20.

itīs not as much as the defenderīs adjusted av that makes me think (usually, when I donīt see 270 base av adjusted to 2800 av when there are also two or three negative multipliers), itīs the constant 1/4-1/3 adjusted av my units get when being 100% prepped, supplied, etc without getting any negative or positive multipliers. Thatīs what I donīt understand. Having two Marine or US Inf divs getting 250 adjusted av on average is a bit off IMO.

It's hard to understand how AV modifiers work in AE, the only thing I can see in your last assault is that you don't have a HQ present. Probably got a bad dice roll....

I think hitting a small LCU in a huge jungle hex usually would mean bombing a lot of jungle

Well, if medium bomber pool is empty I'd say you would have to do without for a while!-)
Have you lost them all or converted them to ship bombers?

there is no HQ, thatīs correct. IIRC Iīve got 4! HQs for the whole US Army to use, all are of course prepping for a target (important ones). Bad die rolls? On 15 pages of AAR all the time? Hmm. Talking about the invasions Iīve done...

no, Iīm playing the Allied side, which means I canīt "produce" 200 medium bombers a month like the Japanese are doing, Iīm stuck with 200 B-25C for the whole war. Now the B-25D1 is the only 2E bomber for the USAAF and thatīs an attack bomber. And, like Iīve said, attack bombers go in at 100ft all the time, hence you should not use them against any Japanese base with at least a bit of defense. Leaves me with the 48 B-24 for the USAAF for all tasks.

Its to late now for you, but i've not see any HRs that are stops the allied side of pressing the upgrade button, changing it not to upgrade for the B-25C Factory. That way u will keep getting 20 B-25Cs per month. Better than nothing if u wish to avoid the ABs.
The allied side actually do have some, tho not alot, of choices in this.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

no, Iīm playing the Allied side, which means I canīt "produce" 200 medium bombers a month like the Japanese are doing, Iīm stuck with 200 B-25C for the whole war.

The allied side actually do have some, if not alot, of choices in this.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

the B-25C got an on map factory??? Oh, damn, I thought it would be replacements only, I didnīt think about having the choice to stop factory upgrading. Keeping 20 B-25C in production would have been great, not a lot but still better than to drown in attack bombers you "canīt use". I couldnīt even think about being able to stop auto upgrading as the Allied.

nice tip Rasmus, going to keep that in mind for my next PBEM for sure. Makes looking at the aircraft replacement list more important, especially to have a look at what ac are replacements and which are produced onmap.

these are the things you find out in your first PBEM. With a couple of other things learnt, the next PBEM will see lots of things different. Thatīs what makes the first PBEM so interesting though, you really suffer from your bad decisions.

The whole medium / attack bomber issue still causes me headache though because I havenīt figured out yet how to support my heavies. Am getting limited USN bomber squadron replacements but having three or four Ventura squadrons for ground attacks only will be too few and the USNīs main task is anti shipping (while the USAAFīs main task is ground attack). Leaves me with quite some Australian bomber squadrons but many of them are restricted and the Australian bomber squadrons are my "long range" torpedo bomber squadrons equipped with Beauforts being able to carry torps up to 8 hexes. Using these squadrons on ground attacks is a nogo so I could use one or two B-25 squadrons (non attack bomber) but the replacement rate of 4 bombers each month will soon end such a task.

At the moment I got 9 USAAF medium bomber squadrons in the frontline equipped with medium (level) bombers but they will all run out of replacements within the next couple of weeks. After that, I can only either upgrade them to 4Es or attack bombers. Attack bombers can only be used against ships or really lightly defended targets but these usually arenīt worth an attack anyway. At some point I will end up with attack bomber squadrons and 4E squadrons only I guess and thatīs for sure not what I like.

hmm... so much about US radar, seems not to help me either... not a dozen sets like in Burma here at Gasmata but at least weīve got four of them... I was stupid enough to have P-40K at the base flying Cap to cover an incoming convoy, out of 75 P-40K we see a whopping number of 15 getting airborne... nice ratio... these 15 were all shot to pieces without a single Tojo damaged... the usual dive massacre... got more than twice the number of fighters at the base than the enemy got incoming, four radar sets and the layered Cap people seem to dream about as a counter to the sattelites... result was the never ending dive on my first squadron, followed by the never ending dive on my second squadron, followed by the never ending dive on my third squadron... every single P-40K was either damaged or shot down... 100% vs not even a single damaged Tojo... same as my opponent, Iīve just lost any mood to put up fighters on Cap at all, mine are all shot to pieces by Oscar II and Tojos (they fly higher than my fighters on Cap) and his are shot to pieces at the same idiotic ratio all the time by my Lightnings and the P-47 we can field now (getting 75 as replacement squadrons and production starts in 7/43)... WITP for sure brought up more realistic kill ratios in such engagements than AE does... and thereīs only one reason for it...

thank you for keeping these aircraft in China... while China has been a backwater theatre, with hundreds of thousand supplies having found itīs way there through Burma, we are in preparation of a big offensive to end the Sitzkrieg and weīre planning for a massive assault onto Liuchow in the South West. Itīs a clear hex and weīve spotted 8 enemy units there. Weīre going to field 12,000!! av, 8,000av will be fully prepped for the base. Plan is to break through here asap and then march on the road to Nanning and fughter on to Hanoi. This should then threaten Vietnamīs coast and further on put a threat onto the enemy positions in Thailand. Result should be 5,000 enemy av being withdrawn from the Moulmein - Chiang Mai area to counter the Chinese hordes and give the British/Indian troops a chance to achieve something on their front...

Ground combat at Lunga (114,138)

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 24497 troops, 615 guns, 267 vehicles, Assault Value = 811

Defending force 9922 troops, 36 guns, 68 vehicles, Assault Value = 250

Allied engineers reduce fortifications to 5

Allied adjusted assault: 222

Japanese adjusted defense: 2243

Allied assault odds: 1 to 10 (fort level 5)

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), forts(+), disruption(-), experience(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
674 casualties reported
Squads: 2 destroyed, 38 disabled
Non Combat: 3 destroyed, 50 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 5 disabled
Vehicles lost 3 (1 destroyed, 2 disabled)

3rd Marine Division
104th USN Base Force
119th USAAF Base Force

Defending units:
14th Division
9th Ind. Engineer Regiment
2nd JNAF AF Unit

in this case you donīt have to care much about the adjusted av, even though Iīm still of the opinion that itīs quite odd to have no negative multiplier at all but again having the base av shred to 1/3... in the long run the enemy base will fall but it will take a hell a lot of attacks until the enemy finally will be worn down enough to see them getting an adjusted av of only 100 because I doubt ours will ever get any better than 300 at best... prepping seems to only help for the invasion but not for the fighting... Even if the enemy unit is rated as a division, itīs only a division on paper... more or less no heavy weapons and totally understrenght... two Marine divs got a real hard time to overcome such an enemy, which again brings me to the point of trying to have 3 inf divs plus support for our upcoming assaults...

one of our huge tanker convoys runs over a sub again, glad one of the 8 DE was targetted and missed... two dozen DCs dropped in return but none came even close to damaging the sub... Iīve got three really big tanker convoys shuttling between the US West Coast and Australia, I would not want to have one run into enemy carriers or a big surface combat force... the chances for this are very small considering the routes my tankers take but everytime one of the convoys is spotted by an enemy sub Iīm a little bit concerned...

the enemy has now started to bomb my ground units that are marching on Liuchow... the number of units should already be alerting for the enemy but without any road or rail connnection to the South or East of Japanese held territory there is no chance for the enemy to bring in lots of reinforcements soon...

have ordered an intelligence bombardment today... the enemy still seems to have four full divisions at Darwin that are backed up by some tanks... considering probable level 6 forts thereīs not much my force can do here as long as the enemy got supplies... and as long as flak is firing, the enemy does have supplies... with two of the units only being fragments anymore, it seems that some kind of evacuation has been going on (or still is)... what is interesting though is the lack of aviation units though because that will make any big style Cap attempt over Darwin for a couple of days impossible I guess so I wonder how Rainer is planning to bring these troops back out again... airtransport only? I will keep an eye on the situation and it can only be a win win situation for us... the main goal is to take Darwin, destroying these units is only secondary... evacuating all of the units will be impossible with our force steadily growing in the area and leaving back only one or two divisions will end up in an enemy defeat pretty fast... and if the enemy is only kept in place we can also think about bypassing them... having these four divisions here surely will hurt sooner than later IMO...

nearly the whole US artillery units in the Pacific at this place now without any effect other than giving us intel... the meager counterfire caused more destroyed squads/equipment of course...

2nd Provisional Base Force firing at AM Benalla
16 mines cleared

preparations for the upcoming assault on Rabaul... I was amazed when I noticed CD firing on my minesweepers... all of them are damaged, none is anywhere near sinking condition... this was alerting though as I didnīt expect any CD fire to be honest... we wonīt invade that place anytime soon so I guess some more mines will whittle away until the invasion, the same is true for the available supply... Iīm going to take the bases to the East and North East first (Namatanai and Kavieng) and place LBA there as this would make any enemy intervention of my Rabaul invasion a super dangerous task... Weīre going to have a couple of hundred Hellcats by then, 100 B-25D1 attack bombers on Gasmata and could place a hundred Corsairs with SBDs and Beauforts at Kavieng. Namatanai could further support us with fighters... as the enemy hasnīt intervened with our landings in the Solomons, I donīt expect him to act against an invasion of Rabaul either as this would just be a kamikaze move IMO... 30 enemy units at Rabaul, weīve got several divs, a HQ and support units prepping for the target...

this is so nuts... thank god Iīve just recently read on the main forum that the devs are sure the artillery model is realistic... hmm... what have they been thinking about the originally designed nuclear artillery in AEīs release then? Doing this comment because one of my tank units was totally shredded today! A dozen tanks destroyed and the rest was disabled... heck, thatīs so stupid... forget about aritllery in this game! DONīT USE IT! Youīre better off not using it at all... wonder what this tank unit was doing to be shredded just because we ordered a bombardment...

the reason for the back to back artillery use was to see if the enemy is doing air transports and this seems to be the case... the enemyīs troop strenght dropped by 570 troops and the av by 20 points in one day... thatīs fine with me... the enemy suffered a couple of IJAAF transports lost too which supports my assumption of air evac here... the enemy transports are probably coming from Timor, Dili is a level 6 airfield, which is a pretty big airfield for the Japanese as Rainer usually hasnīt built up his fields...

To any one that might have gotten the wrong impression and avoid any confusion i might have been wrong about the whole not upgrading factories idea.

Read: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2546210&mpage=1&key=&#2547252

As i've never tested it i dunno if Ckammp are correct or not, but if he are it will in effect just stop production, keeping the old production plane.
Its certainly worth testing.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

Tested and answered in pic below. No reason why it wouldnt work for any planes, at leased that i can think of.

excellent news Walloc!

Now I only have to figure out how I can turn back the couple of months to get back to B-25C production... the game is a couple of weeks ahead the AAR and I made use of the B-25D1 on ground attack and found out they donīt work at all for me. Used up to 48 bombers against a base without any real enemy resistance and they usually achieve only one or two hits on the runway. Thatīs totally borked it seems, while they do gain a point of strafe in these attacks now and then you canīt use them against ground targets it seems. Granted, I never trained them in lowgnd but I didnīt do that with my level bombers either and they can hit an airfield if they attack with skill right out of school if they do level bombing from 10,000ft... not possible for crews when attacking at 100ft or what?

not only have I feared the attack bombers would be useless due to them attacking at 100ft and therefore would be chewed up by flak and balloons, no, itīs even worse, they canīt hit anything at 100ft. Now Iīve got them all at lownav skill 70 but havenīt seen a nav attack yet. As it stands now, I wonder if thereīs something borked and they need 70 skill in strafe to hit something at 100ft. And you know what, you canīt train bombers on strafe! Tried it with training on 100ft, doesnīt work.

Now I only want to see my first couple of B-25D1 squadrons flying a lownav attack with 70 skill and not hitting the broadside of a barn and you will see me crying about something seriously broken. And all Iīm going to get until late 44 are these friging attack bombers you have no use for...

holy crap, they were killers in combined attacks on airfields in real life and in the game, they are just 100% rubbish...

as a side note, the skill gaining seems to be borked anyway, because I had my bombers on "naval attack" as primary mission and "airfield attack" as secondary mission. Now which skill do you think my crews gained? Strafe and lowgnd? NO! Naval attack and strafe!!!! So even if they fly a lowgnd attack, they gain navattack skill! Not even lownav but NAV!

PLEASE give me B-25 level bombers, every attack bomber just sucks. Nice idea but a shot in your foot.

and bad weather that prevents us from achieving something...

the way weīre using our bombers causes too many losses to keep up with the losses... receiving 1.5 each day so losing four is definetely too much...
