I'd have been much happier had the poster asked "who are your favorite PBEM partners" or something of the like.

Well, were that the case, would I have made your top 20 at least?

I wouldnt be on it.

Actually, yes you would.....so hurry up and buy AE!

Hello Martin!

BTW, few days ago, I re-posted one article from (I think) UK Daily Telegraph about biggest proposed cut in UK MoD history (and especially in RAF).

Will that affect you?

No idea yet, it's all speculation but honestly I don't think the future will be kind to the military. I can see both the RN and RAF taking cuts because the powers that be rarely see beyond the current situation. The RAF is probably the biggest target because (a) aeroplanes are expensive and (b) the Army and Royal Marines are in the news every day, the RAF barely get a mention. The RAF regiment is engaged on the ground, 216 are flying almost daily in and out of theatre including casevacs of seriously injured troops, the joint helicopter force is mostly RAF operated, maintained and owned BUT the emphasis is always on the Army.

It won't directly affect me in the near future, the Afghan airbridge is an important operational commitment that no-one is going to scale back on. Warplanes are expensive, pilots are expensive and there just isn't any money left in the pot. It's just a shame that Afghanistan is the only thing people are thinking about, 20 years from now we'll have another situation to deal with. One that isn't centred around a sandy, hot, landlocked nation.

IMO (not that it counts), if we (the nation) want to continue in the role we see ourselves in, then we need Trident, and the new carriers, and FSTA, and Eurofighter, and better equipment for the brown jobs. Honestly, we could have done without JSF instead we could (should) have gone for either more F/A-18 or the same number for less. The carriers are cat capable and the design is actually proven and at least as capable as any future potential adversary.

I can't say much more than that, because (1) I don't know what's happening and (2) you never know who reads these things and will shout at me (or worse, quote them elsewhere)
