I am currently playing a PBEM with a partner and we are sharing the Japanese side.

Is there a way for both of us to see the replay after the Allies send us a turn?

My partner did his side and sent me the file, but it expects me to type in the player 2 password. I missed out on all the fun the last two turns.

Thanks!

Some where around here I thought there used to be a "multiplayer PBEM process" explanation.

The short version - for Japanese side - is:

01 - After receiving Allied turn - designated Japanese player 01 runs turn then saves turn.

02 - Designated Japanese player 01 then sends replay file(s) to all Japanese and Allied players.

03 - Designated Japanese player 01 then reopens file saved in step one and moves forces and then re-saves (do NOT hit turn over button).

04 - Designated Japanese player 01 then sends file saved in step 03 to Japanese player 02.

05 - Japanese player 02 then opens file (using player 01 password) and moves forces - once done this player hits the turn over button and saves.

06 - Japanese player 02 then sends file saved in step 05 to allied players.

Ok - my Japanese partner sent me the replay file and the orders phase for the current turn. (not yet advanced for Allied player)

I saved the replay into the slot and when I went to load it, it asked me for Player 2's password.

I hit enter, and in a moment, it had loaded up the replay and generated the reports for me.

This brought up a few more questions:

1) Are replay videos showing the same thing for both the Allied and the Japanese player?

2) How will it know which side I am for combat report generation?

3) Why does it ask me for player 2's password?

Because your opponent did not follow my step 03 above.

Curious Joe..., wouldn't it be easier to have the opposing player who finishes the turn to send the "replay" file to BOTH/ALL of
the players on the other side?  Then the one(s) waiting to get the actual turn file could at least see what happened in the
previous turn while they were waiting....

In our 2x2 I usually:

1. Run the turn and send out a copy of the replay for the other three players.
2. Issue my Orders and send to FatR--Only he knows the turn has migrated to him.
3. He completes the Turn and sends it to all three players, thus, we know the turn has migrated.
4. One Ken issues his orders and send it to the other Ken who then does his.
5. Second Ken sends the new Turn to all three players

We begin it again...

I did the proper sequence from above, and this time as well, it asked my Japanese opponent for the Player 2 password. When he hit enter, it went through and ran, but is a normal thing you face?

Also, on my previous question about combat reports:

How does it know which reports to generate (Allied or Japanese) when you load the replay?

Do both sides see the exact same replay?

Negatif - we use a different sequence from what you are using (see above posts for the sequence we are using)

Not sure what you mean by this. Each "side" sees the same replay - though the information is filtered based on which side logs in.

I had a typo. I meant "my Japanese partner".

We are using what you posted and your sequence. It still asks the second Japanese player for the Allied password.

If you send the same replay to both Jpn and Alled players at the same time, how does it determine which reports to generate and which computer is a Jpn player's and an Allied player's?

It would not ask for Allied password if you were following the sequence. Your partner must be hitting the "turn over" button.

Yes, I assumed so too.

Yet last night, I was the one to send the replay and look at the turn first, and I didn't hit the end turn button or anything. I sent the replay before anything else.

My partner got it, was asked for player two password, hit enter without typing anything, and got to see the turn replay.

When he told me this, it confused me. I wasn't sure if this was normal, a glitch, or a human error on our part.

The "combat replay" will always ask for the second player's password. This replay is for the benefit of the Allied player, not the Japanese player who has the view of the full turn.

Ah - perhaps another way to say this is that to specify things by file name. There would be at least two files that need to be exchanged between the four players in a 2 by 2 game. The 001 file (what Michael is calling the replay file) and the 021 file (or some other number file which you are using as the save game file.

So here are my steps above with file numbers included (using 021 as an arbitrary name for the save game file).

The short version - for Japanese side - is:

01 - After receiving Allied turn - designated Japanese player 01 runs turn then saves turn [021 file].

02 - Designated Japanese player 01 then sends replay file(s) [001 file] to all Japanese and Allied players.

03 - Designated Japanese player 01 then reopens file saved in step one [021 file] and moves forces and then re-saves [021 file] (do NOT hit turn over button).

04 - Designated Japanese player 01 then sends file saved in step 03 [021 file] to Japanese player 02.

05 - Japanese player 02 then opens file [021 file] (using player 01 password) and moves forces - once done this player hits the turn over button and saves [021 file].

06 - Japanese player 02 then sends file saved in step 05 [021 file] to allied players.

Yes, the file designators do help.

Yet... we did exactly what you outlined with the proper files.

The 001 file asks my Japanese partner for an Allied password when he gets it.

This was the question. He gets the 021 file fine (for us, it's slot 005) and can work it fine.

It was the 001 file I've been talking about all along.

I was worried that the 001 file would generate Allied combat reports for him. (Or me, if he gets it and sends it to me first.)

The actual process I use in my games is to also send the
combatreport.txt file along with the 001 file. The Japanese player can then
read the combatreport.txt in lieu of watching the replay [001 file].
Sending the combatreport.txt file was an old habit begun in the
days of the "synch bug" but I still find it useful for both sides as
a quick summary of what happened in the turn.

Joe, I haven't looked but isn't the comabt report text file different between the Japanese and the Allies?
