Thanks!

I've been runnig Win 7 64bit for about 6 months now and have had no problems at all running any of my Matrix titles.

2 things: Always install using Admin rights and install your games to a directory that you create like C:\Games.

All of our game work with Windows 7 64-bit, but some do require adjustment of compatibility settings.

I can't for the life of me get Harpoon: Commanders Edition to work in Win 7 64bit. I get the game loaded but it crashes on entering any of the campaigns.

Cheers

Always make a shortcut on your desktop. Rt. Click it, select Properties, and check the boxes "run as administrator" and "Disable Desktop Composition".

While the first isn't always needed since Matrix' games install to C:\Matrix instead of the OS restricted C:\Program Files folder, it's a good idea with all games to be on the safe side. The second one is to temporarily disable your Windows Aero flashy stuff so that the video card isn't getting a workout and there's no complications. Aero turns back on after you close the game automatically this way.

I've had no problems with any Matrix games in Win7-64 yet while using these settings. I've not played HCE since building this new machine back in January so I don't know if I could reproduce Jev's problem. I do know that HCE's scenario editor doesn't work in 64-bit which puts quite a damper on any future scenario building for me.

Sounds like something is "stuck" in your OS regarding your printer? Do you have some print jobs that are stuck or something? Sounds like your Windows is a bit fouled up by something else. Did you, perhaps, install a 32 bit driver for a printer instead of a 64bit and tried to print something?

I'm taking a guess as I'm better at fingering that stuff out hands-on. It's always a "could be a lot of things" situation.

EDIT: Remember that all the old equipment you used with your previous 32 bit machine needs all new 64 bit drivers. If you load the old drivers for stuff, it'll cause craziness.

They work; but there is an issue that has been bugging me ever since I upgraded to Win7:

Matrix simply does NOT digitally sign any of it's executables, whether its the game executable or the installer executable.

So this means when I click on a Matrix game exe to run it; I have to wait for UAC to pop up and say "do you want to run this program that is unsigned y/n?"

I program the game in Win 7 64-bit so I know it works. The scenario editor won't run natively in 64-bit operating systems but the game itself runs. The EndDoc message you are seeing usually happens to people when they install one of the patches to a different directory than the base game.

So installing the game and then whatever patches, making sure to specify the same directory each time, should get you going. Feel free to ask us for further help.

If you are seriously considering either of the Harpoon games, I recommend that you be safe rather than sorry. Demos exist for both editions and will let you know for an absolute certainty beforehand if the game will work satisfactorily with your Win 7 or not.

Sounds like solid information to me.

You want to install fresh onto any new OS. You're likely missing registry entries.

I am dual booting Win xp and Win 7 and put a clean install of HCE on WIn 7, I think the problem is with the update patch I installed....

As I used to tell my students 'Computing and computers are fun.. when they work, but they are only as clever as the silly arse thats using them.'

Ahh, ok. I misunderstood you then.

Let us know how it goes after you reinstall the game and the patches.
