I pre-ordered the box copy of Victoria 2 which will come out in a couple of weeks here I figure by then they should have a patch fixing any of the glaring problems found so far. I have enjoyed playing the demo this past week.

It's weird to think that for the next three weeks, my time will be 100% my own; I hope I can adjust to it relatively quickly, so as to not waste it too much...

That's why I use 'dudes' when in mixed company, sir. It's such a flexible term. Gender neutral, even. Well, 'dudettes' would be more specific I guess, but who's counting?

Oh, and a good morning tithe.

Good morning all. Tithe

Hmmm. My weekend "Honey-do" list seems to have gained an appendix so off to the first round of chores.

Face it gentlemen, the Thread is no longer a "gentlemen's club! And that's not a bad thing! I'm sure I'm not the 1st , but I'd like to welcome Grafin (Rhonda is it?) to the Thread. I'm glad you decided to join the insanity!

Well, I won't claim to know all the intricacies, but I got the jist of it.

Makes me sad that Robert will visit the forums and post anywhere but here.

Me too! I wonder if we've done something to offend him? I miss his wit and insight.

Well, Steve, a final 'Happy Birthday' wish from me for the night. The turn should be in your inbox to enjoy. I'm off to watch the rest of my Oakland A's v. Minnesota with a nice bourbon.

Thank you again! Enjoy your game.....I'll probably not be able to get to the turn (yes I've received it) before early afternoon. Enjoy your game. (Next time you send me a turn or email, include the name of your brand of bourbon--If I don't already have it stocked , I'll lay some in for the upcomming summit!).

Leo suggested that you might be a "beach type" (and you quickly refuted that). I see you as more of a museum type. (Am I close?) Whatever you decide, I hope that you enjoy it!

Thanks Radar! BTW , we share a "nickname". Back in the USN, on board the plane, I was usually called "RADAR" or Sensor 3.

Honestly, Steve, I have no military experience. I chose the radar handle as an homage to my father, who served in the Pacific as a radarman aboard the U.S.S. Terry.

It was during my historical research of his ship's experience that I happened upon an odd computer game that included his ship. Well, you can imagine what happened once I downloaded the thing.

No bash, it was just another day. (Excepting the kind wishes of my fellow Threadsters, which meant a very great deal to me!). Tomorrow night my spouse and I plan on dinner at a favorite brew pub , but that's it.

I can very much imagine. My father in law, when he learned of my WW2 addiction , asked me to research the USS LST 342, where his brother (and all but a couple of the crew died) , and I'd been doing that for over ten years when I first encounterd the ship in WITP. It was very, very creepy. (And when I play that ship generally spend the war as a training vessel in San Diego harbor). With AE , I think I'll send her to the US east coast or somewhere's even safer (so a Mini-sub doesn't enter the harbor and get her. I'd put her on the great lakes if I could!).

Graffin's presence reminds me of the fact that I was an active contributor to my wife's cloth diapering forum for some time. The only guy there. It felt a bit odd, but was decent company for a while. It was interesting to be in a position to provide (needed) 'guy perspective' on issues as the token male.

Once I broke the 1000 post barrier, that opened up some hitherto unavailable subforums that were a bit on the racy side. Cries of woe-"There's a man in our locker room" was one such lament-filled the air. I became a marked man by those who didn't appreciate my crashing the party. Eventually, a mundane (and very tame) disagreement was identified as sufficient grounds for a permanent ban. It was all very catty and back-bitey.

So, point being gents: Let's please make sure to give Graffin a more welcome reception to our forum than I have received on other female-only forums.

Graffin: you'll find the folks here to be very easy going and forthright. Disagreement is tolerated well. If you have any protocol or etiquette questions, please PM one of us. But if the forum can tolerate some of the perennial malcontents that it does for years on end, you'll be fine.

Heh. One of my PBEM opponents-USSHenrico-has his handle based upon the ship his father saw action on in WWII. It was hit by a Kamikaze and his father WIA, IIRC. He has already informed me that this particular destroyer will be excessively defended when it is in action. Alternatively, it will be left in port on CONUS.
