I am looking at the Construction Ship Furmus Whim @ 14379x19534. Design: CST-1 Space Dock Mk15 (size 91) All components normal.

The design is in fact for a size 540 ship.

The installed components of Furmus Whim are: 1 StarBurner XX-12 engine. 1 Equinox Hyperdrive EQ-700 2 Quantum Reactor NT8000 4 Deucalios KT180 shields. EoL

The design calls for: 1 Hyperdrive 1 command center 2 reactor 8 engines 1 vector component 5 fuel cell 8 cargo bay 1 ship yard 1 docking bay 3 energy collectors 3 industrial plants 1 of each other plant 4 shields 7 hab modules 7 life support modules. EoL

Needless to say, the statement that All Components are normal must not be referring to the omitted components. - I have seen this happen before with a space port, I *think* it involves calling for a retrofit before the construction is complete. -- I will devise a test for this.

Unrelated, but if you look up the construction ships Cautious Pride and Cheerful Adversity in the same save file, they each have in cargo a component I would *love* to use in new construction: 1 Super Laser. They've been there ever since I acquired the Devastation Moons -- I suspect these wound up there when I pulled the ships off the project to let newer+faster construction ships do the work, although it might have been from where I had 2 ships both working to repair 1 moon. I've seen similar lingering components at space ports too... can components in cargo that are not reserved at some point be rendered down to their components (or just lobbed into the nearest black hole)? //Torrenal

Conclusion: When retrofitting a ship/base while it is undergoing the initial construction, any components common to the two designs, but that have not yet been installed, do not get installed into the ship/base. Any components from the original design that have not yet been installed will be left in Cargo. Components for the original design that have not yet been manufactured will still be manufactured.

Space Port Retrofit test #1: Location: Tatuueni Minor 2 Initial design: TestPort - Puny -- 19 components. With 8 incomplete components, and 7 of the 8 remaining components sitting on the planet, I keyed it for retrofit.

At time of refit order:
  • Assembled&Installed Components:
    • Standard Armor
    • Corvidian HX1000 Shield
    • Fission Reactor FS100
    • Energy Collector ECL100
    • Weapons Plant WP100
    • Industrial Plant IP100
    • Energy Plant EP100
    • High Tech Plant HP100
    • Standard Docking Bay
    • Basic Ship Yard
    • S2F7 Repair Bot
  • Components on planet waiting for install:
    • Basic Command Center
    • Basic Commerce Center
    • Basic Life Support x2
    • Standard Hab Module x2
    • Standard Fuel Cell x1
  • Components still not manufactured:
    • Standard Cargo Bay x1


Retrofitted to... SSP1 Mk25 queued via Ships & Bases screen. Built to - Size 695. Design size - 695. On brief examination, the construction appears complete and correct.
  • Components on-hand (in inventory) after completion:
    • Basic Command Center
    • Basic Commerce Center
    • Basic Life Support x2
    • Standard Hab Module x2
    • Standard Fuel Cell x1
    • Standard Cargo Bay x1



Space Port Retrofit test #2 Location: Desmaanu Major 2.

Alter SSP1 Mk 27, replacing the shields with Corvidian HX100 (obsolete component) and order construction of this port. Once construction was started (moved from waiting to building, 0 components installed), I upgraded the design to the latest design (SSP1 Mk 28) and retrofitted the building port to it. The only change to the design was replacing the shields with Megatron Z4 shields.

During construction, the first observed effect is that while components were manufactured, none were installed. The obsolete Corvidian HX100 shields were among the manufactured components.

Once the Megatron Z4 shields were manufactured, they were installed.

Once the install for the SSP1 Mk 28 shields was complete, the build was concluded, giving me Desmaanu Major 2 Space Port, size 128, components: Megatron Z4 x 16. It appears that components for a complete SSP Mk 27 reside in stock.

Not sure if it's related, but i had a flying "under construction" cruiser once. For some reason it left the shipyard to rejoin my fleet but eventually stopped in deep space where i had to scrap it because it would not get anywhere...

I could see that if it had plenty of reactor, some solar panels, and no fuel cells...

0 fuel cells = 0 fuel. Solar panels power charge the capacitors in the reactors, it pops into hyper, runs out of juice between stars... no light to charge the panels...
