i have always had an idea that i want to explain here!
why the games are not linkable !!!
i explain better, why is not possible to play our best strategic game and then play (if you want), the resulting battle with another game of another developer ???
somewhere as the total war series but much large-scale idea.
if you think this the arrangements are infinity, play our air engagement with il-2 or the naval battle with silent hunter.
the only problem, the two games must be linkable.
there are problems i know but the vantages are large and the market of games obtain certainly benefits as also developers.
that's all... Bye

Only if they come from the same developers.  Micropose tried to link Gunship with M1 Tank Platoon.  But that didn't push through.  LOMAC can link with BlackShark.

Welcome to the forums.  Just remember not to post links to dealstudio and other sites to earn commission.

Well, I am sure English isn't his first language, but at least he got his point across. That is more than I can say about many forum posters who do claim English as their first.

"...the only problem, the two games must be linkable..."

Yes that's the only problem, and at the same time it's an unsurmountable problem. People differ just too much (opinions, thoughts, insights, points of view, you name it) to make games linkable. Maybe it would work for a small dedicated company, but then the (niche-)market for it would be much too small---> too few buyers is a guaranteed no go.
So yeah, the idea might seem good, but it's not around the corner. Well maybe one day when everything is Microsoft and Google (or their successors) then games might become linkable. (gosh I hope I don't see that day though; everything MS/Google/Steam)

Well not exactly Steam, no steam bashing from me, nor MS or Google bashing, I merely wanted to point out that in a distant future everything *might* be linked together, all the "pc's" ( or whatever they will look like in X years time), all your searches, all the things you buy, all places you've been to, all the movies and series you've watched, or will watch...) all that combined in super computers. Then it will be possible to make linkable wargames. I doubt very much it will be possible to make really "linkable" wargames before that happens.

English is your third? Wow, for a third language I'm impressed. Tagalog is my 2nd and I have a hard time writing it!

Oo! Pero hindi ako mahusay. Nag-practice na ako kasi Pilipina ang asawa ko. (Yes! But I'm not very good. I practice because my wife is  Filipina.)

I am so jealous of you guys that have English as a second language and write it better than I do.

I'm not a programmer, but I presume that making games from different developers linkable would require them to have access to each other's programming code (at least to a certain extent).

I'm not sure many developers would agree to that.

It's obviously a conspiracy.  d00g has taken down the bbs to suppress SLAAKMAN.

I bet goblin conceived this entire plan.  He's the only one dastardly and smart enough to think it up.

i think t001001001 maybe referring to his favourite website no longer working and he is unable to contact his friends/colleagues there who appear to administer the site - it appears that in his frustration and exhaustion at trying to contact these friends/colleagues he has decided to post here in an attempt to capture their attention

i dont think its working

It's back up

I don't know how the place survives w/o my consistent whining

"open 24/7"
Well... mostly

It's a spinoff from this bbs here "Nobody Asked Me, But...." old matrix and wargamer ppl. Private bbs d00g owns. A place to discuss things that won't fly here on a commercial bbs w/ pretty much the same guys. I'm not here to promote it, just wondering why it was gone. But that's the story of it. There used to be a link to it here at matrix.

Why do we get all the looser bots? Bots with posts without links, and bots that fail to make links, hmm, well, clickable.

Someone's posted recently about the idea of linking Pacific War and Carrier Strike, to resolve the battles occurring in the former in the latter. This never (properly) came to pass, but it was an interesting idea. The biggest conceptual problem I think would have been the opportunity for a player talented in one game to dominate the other.

There was also a project, albeit it was supposedly intended to be run by a "Game Master" (much like the good old Dungeon Master I guess) that prepared for the players. If I remember correctly, the high level game was done using TOAW (I or II at that time) and the lower level air and sea combat was done with Harpoon. Can't remember what they intended to use for ground combat. I don't think they got very far with the workload involved in manually linking all this stuff etc, but the idea was interesting.

The idea of having an actual computer system that would be AT/TOAW for the grand scale ground operations, but with leaders of course, HoI style production and research, WitP for the fleets, Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich for Air Ops, and then it zooms into Harpoon and Battle for the Bulge to resolve the actual combat is great, and a grognards perverse dream! If it would actually be possible / enjoyable to play is another question.

I guess WWII Online in some respect addressed this with their High Command guiding the lower level operations in a sense, but compared to what we are talking about here, that was more of a beer and pretzel approach.

You might be thinking of the Global Thunder MBX. See one list of MBX/CPX past and present at http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?showtopic=8774
