I have made a pilot version of the Excel editor. It allows some basic editing of the force pools file. You can find it here. It is meant to be used with the ModInstaller, made by Bernd. Much indebted to xe5, for explaining how the force pools txt file works, elsewhere in this forum.

This is a very useful tool. Im now able to edit fpools.txt without having to refer to a separate list of team class numbers.

Suggestions:

BGroups.txt has a new column (D) that is skewing the LSA Editor's display of that file. Column D now refers to the shared parent formation forcepool as specified in /data/base/formations.txt.

On the BGroups tab, in the Force Pool editing space, display the 'net' team quantities in addition to the 'gross' team quantities. eg. if a 'gross' quantity for a team was 54, then the 'net' quantity at Recruit difficulty, (54 x .462) would be 24. This would allow tool users to better visualize the actual forcepool quantities available in-game. It would be ideal if the 'net/net' forcepool quantities could be displayed as factored by both the Difficulty level modifier and Start Day modifier.

Another pilot available (I wait with version 1 until we have the Workbook).

You can now edit the active roster and all difficulty multipliers. Following the suggestion from xe5, you can see how many teams you will actually have available for any given day and difficulty level.

If you are using Excel 2010, you can add a Close Combat tab to your ribbon. The icons are still the standard Excel ones, though.

The final version of your Excel editor should be officially incorporated into the LSA workbook.

Hoping you'll add a 'Reinforcements Editing Space' with the capacity to create up to 5 reinforcement force pools.

The Base and Actual Quantities columns are misleading and could be deleted from the Active Roster Editing Space. For example - At 'Line' difficulty, on Day 1, the 1st Air Landing Bde would have 7 Command Infantry units in its forcepool (2 x Co HQ + 5 Plt HQ) instead of the 15 Command Infantry teams indicated by slots 1, 6 and 11 in the Active Roster Editing Space.

Yet another version of the pilot...

Major changes:

- All battle group data are loaded in one go.
- You can now also edit the reinforcements. I have given each battle group 5 reinforcements, the original ones completed with dummy reinforcements of 9 empty teams on turn 99.
- The interface of the editor uses dialogue boxes. Changes also to the Close Combat ribbon.
- Some extensive reprogramming. You should not notice this, except by the disappearance of the technical spaces, and the appearance (I hope not) of bugs.

Im getting a #VALUE! error in the Force Pool/Actual Quantity (D20:D44) and Active Roster/Base Quantity (E53:E67) columns on the FPoolRosterEditor worksheet.

The effort youre putting into creating and improving this tool is much appreciated.

Argh ! I think it's due to a confusion between the decimal point and the decimal comma, which has been causing me headaches all along. The global multipliers were written with a point, and we use a comma over here, so my Excel probably saved it as text. For some weird reason, my PC refuses to switch to the decimal point, even when I change the international settings.

I've posted a new version, can you check that this solves the problem ?

Fixed the #VALUE! error in the Force Pool/Actual Quantity column (D20:D44) by manually changing the five Difficulty Modifier decimal separators on the GMultiEditor worksheet from commas to points. The #VALUE! error in the Active Roster/Base Quantity column (E53:E67) was simultaneously resolved since it resulted from me having selected "Actual Quantity" as the Active Roster quantity indicator.

If the decimal separator selection (point or comma) on the Home worksheet is supposed to effect changes on the GMultiEditor worksheet, its not working.

Being a firm believer in "feature creep", here's another suggestion - per the image below, add an option to show "Available Slots" to the Active Roster quantity indicator based on the current Actual Quantity values selected for the Force Pool configuration. BG point strength based on currently selected Actual Quantities would also be worthwhile info.

The new version solves the decimal separator problem, although toggling the separator selection on the Home worksheet still doesnt seem to change the GMultiEditor separators.

Toggling the seperator field does not change the actual entries in the spreadsheet. It does two things when you have selected "comma":

1/ when you open the txt file, it adds a condition that the decimal seperator is the point and the thousands seperator the comma (cfr the dialogue box you get when opening a text file in Excel) ;
2/ when you save the txt file, it sets all fields at "text" format, and then runs through the whole sheet to replace comma's with points.

Wish the whole world would switch to the point (or the comma or whatever)...

Somebody has also pointed out the following. Load for instance Kampfgruppe Knaust, and look at the first reinforcement they get: it's each time one sniper ! This seems rather unlikely, so these fields probably code for something else.

Even stranger that the 1st Polish Parachute Bde reinforcements on turn 40 would include 1 US Sniper in addition to 9 Polish snipers.

After looking through all the reinforcement data again, diese andere Person is correct that the second and third fields in each line of reinforcement data code for something other than team type and quantity. Working values for the second field are- 0, 1, 2; for the third field- 0, 1. Guessing these may specify conditions which need to be met before reinforcement can happen.
