First of all, the credits go to CodeForce and Matrix games by making that adicional ship images. Also i don't know if these ships will function properly in the game, as i've discovered them now, and i'm still trying to put them in the Customization folder.

Now i will explain how to take these new images.

1: Go to the folder you instaled DW, my directory is like that: F:\Matrix Games

2: Go to the images folder, units, ships, and then search for all the "Family ship" folders, the archives may appear like these:

MIL1A, MIL1B, MIL1C, etc...

3: Open a new window going to the Customization folder my directory is that one: F:\Matrix Games\Distant Worlds\Customization

4: Go back to the "Family" folders pick the ships that you like, put them in the Customization folder (To make them appear in the game you must put the name of the original one ex: if you want to put a new Capital Ship image in the game, you must put: capitalship.png like the original one.)

I've discovered this now so, i'm NOT responsible for any damage given to you, your game, or your computer, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

I think that these images will help players that don't know how to change the images included in the game, like me!

I would put a image of one of the ships here, however, i don't even know how to navigate in this site yet.

They will function just fine ingame but you have to have them in the correct folder tree first. Have a look in the DW customization guide and it will tell you all you need to know about making and adding new pictures.

Dont they appear ingame when you choose an image for the design ship screen???
If they dont, WHAT A WASTE! :(
Omg Elliot come baaaaack, we need you to let us add more ship families. Now we could differentiate different races who use the same family, by making a copy of that family and just changing the main frigate, escort, destroyer, cruiser, capital images :D
Hmm, can we do that now even? *tries*

I believe the other ships are used by pirates and derelicts.

Pirates are using the ones in the "other" folder, and you can even choose them ingame so........ WAIT... What if we copied and put all the MIL1A etc into the others folder? We could choose them ingame, perhaps?
edit: no, of course not.. Its like the game is hardcoded to ONLY read specific ships, no matter if you add other families etc, a bit dissapointing :(

I don't understand why you would want to use the MIL1A in the others folder to use in game?

You can pick any ship design in the ships folder for your own use. The only only exclusive ships will be your own folder.

Currently the game only allows for the editing of existing races and their ships, no support yet is given for modders to add additional races and ship sets.

However,this was being discussed as a possible inclusion.

Erik and Elliot have been quiet lately on this forum, I hope everything is ok.

Looks like he is heavily involved in another game at the moment... Kharkov...

Which is why I think Elliot took a vacation to get his mind off all the coding and stuff.

In a futile attempt to have them show up in the ingame design screen, giving you more options than just the 5 (escort, frigate, destroyer, cruiser, capital) properly named .png's in the family folder :P
I just figured, maybe ANY .png's placed in the others folder would show up, they didnt, which is dissapointing.

Honestly though, as rabid fanboys go, we're really not that bad here in the DW forums.

I think I would have to agree with you on that one. Everyone here is usually polite and helpful to one-another.
