Some of you will surely be saying - "Haven't I seen this before?". Well, the answer would be yes. I started an AAR with the same theme a couple of years ago, but used all Detailed Battles. I was unhappy with the results, so decided to let it die. I also tried it on the AGEOD engine, but my computer died and I lost all my results. So...here I am again. This time I have decided to try matching up against the AI using exclusively Quick Combat for my results. Terje cautioned me that the South would hold up initially, but the overwhelming manpower of the North would eventually win over. So, I considered a scenario that all us true southern rednecks dream about. One where events changed giving the South a chance to win the war. Basically, I have created an ahistorical story line, where politically things took a different turn, and the South woke up. It will result in economic as well as population growth for the South, so that when the War comes the South will be better prepared to take on the Yankees. Personally, I don't know how it's gonna turn out. I have not tried this before. Perhaps it will turn out worse. Well...I don't know how it could turned out worse. Just kidding. Let me share a funny story with you before I shut up and let you read the AAR. I am from Lynchburg, Virginia, about twenty miles west of Appomatox, where the War ended. Two years ago, my wife and I visited the Gettysburg Battlefield in Pennsylvania. I did not know that the weekend we chose to go was the same weekend for a motorcycle rally in Gettysburg. I told my wife afterwards, who would have thought 150 years later that you could visit Gettysburg and see more Rebel flags than American flags.

By the way, I have Grey Hunter to thank for the inspiration he gave to me from his "News From the Front" AAR. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Excellent news! Always good to see another AAR. (You might want to include 'AAR' in the thread title, though.)

The Southern Commercial Convention. Will it make an impact on Southern planters?
By the way, this speech is was actually taken from an article by Justice Lumpkin in a 1851 issue of DeBow's Review.

Here is the 5th one. I'm going through this story line to give some context to the increase in Confederate money, resources, and manpower that will be needed to put up a battle that won't necessarily end up in Southern disaster. I could skip over all this, but I like a good story. Hope this qualifies.

Virginia, which is already more industrialized that the rest of the South, begins to benefit from the lower tariff.

Another compromise reached, but sectional differences continue.

I will be on vacation for a week. I will continue when I return. Don't worry, I will eventually get to 1861.

These are not real articles, but my own historical fiction.
In my very first newspaper I have an ahistorical "Compromise of 1850".
This is just a fictional story that will allow the South to become stronger before 1861.
I basically have made some mods to the July 1861 Scenario. Some of the articles will reveal some of the mods I have made. For instance, the Cotton Mill in Charleston from my July 16, 1852 article is a subtle hint that I have increased money, production, and manpower in Charleston. When all is said and done I will have increased money, production, buildings, and manpower in the Confederacy about 15%. Remember, I will be playing out all battles using exclusively Quick Combat.

Great to see that you are taking up another AAR. You are a good story teller and the context is very well done. While I'll root for your AAR, my heart is with the North . I am sure that I am not alone that I'm hoping your computer hangs in there

Thank you for your kind compliment. With all battles being played out by Quick Battle, there are no guarantees, even with the Southern advancements which are being employed. I believe I am a better story teller than game player, so the North will probably win But I will give it a good run... I noticed in the news today that the University of Mississippi Rebel mascot has been replaced by a Black Bear with pants. This is undoubtedly a sad day for true Southerners. It's a shame that everything Antebellum Southern is looked at as racist. I love the history and culture of the Antebellum South, but am not a racist.

Ironic, the Black Bear is the mascot of our University of Maine, though it doesn't help our football team win much.

Rest assured I make no judgments other than you like to play this game and you tell a good story. If someone invaded my home I'd like to think that I'd fight first, and sort out the politics/ideologies later . We are all Americans, after all .

Game on.
