I remember in WITP that the US would get a replacement for Carriers and Cruisers sunk in 1942 but delayed about 2 years.

Did that make it to AE?

Not complaining about this, but what is the respawning trying to simulate?

My understanding is that it's simulating the fact that USA production was not maxed and could have produced more carriers if there was a need.

Respawn stank, and cheated everyone.

The Allies were cheated out of some key 1943 CVs that they didn't get if they didn't suffer early losses

The Allies got way too many cruisers though; CL ADELAIDE, a useless Aussie CL, would re-spawn as a Baltimore or Cleveland; it was actually worth getting ADELAIDE killed early-on for an easy reinforcement. Same with the Omahas.

Thank goodness Respawn is dead, IMO.

reinforcements for allied CV and CA are now fixed and include every historical ship, including the historical reorders. Should you make a mod where you want it, in Scenario tab of Editor at bottom, select 'use respawn.' Note you cannot expand or contract included classes or apply to the Empire. It is what it is.

I dont look at this option as good or bad...just available.

It was primarily a mechanism to simulate the renaming of already planned CV's to that of the lost unit in question. In Pacwar the naming scheme (and production schedule) was fixed so it was possible to have a USS Yorktown afloat and a USS Yorktown II afloat in one game. Kinda cracked the Fourth Wall to use a crude metaphor.

It was partially eliminated due to serious bitching during stock days about the historical nature/game impact of the accelerated production of CV's.

If you look at the list of ships building, all of the real-life CVs and CA/CLs that were named after sunk ships are listed as "Yorktown II" or "Canberra II" and so on. However, up until these ships are completed, you can go to the ship data screen (in the game, not in the editor) and change the name of the ship to anything you want, including the names of ships that are sunk in your game. This seems to accomplish the historical accuracy the developers are striving for much better than the idea of "respawning." At least IMO.

And now, you just get the carriers anyways. If you do a good job preserving your original six, then you are going to have an very nice carrier force by 8/43. Sort of gives you a reason to look after them...

You can change the name of the ship in the ship data screen in the game? How?

Open the ship availability screen. Pick one of the CVs with a II at the end of its name. In the detail screen you will note that the name is yellow, not white like all the others. Click on the name and type in what you want.

Note that if you let the ship arrive on the map you will not be able to change the name.
