ORIGINAL: styer27 I scoped this game out for weeks before i finally found a decent download that found a way past matrix games over-the-top security codes, im an honest person but im an avid believer in the try before you waste $100 policy. Anyway, as we all know the game has a depth that almost takes alien technology to understand so i whammed through the first couple of weeks as japanese mostly watching the action unfold as i slowly fall in love with the game. But this love reminds me of an ex girlfriend i had that had a really fat friend, and as much as a tried not to i was forced to spend time around an annoying, smelly fat woman .... so i left her. In english, of course i want to sink the enterprise, and prevent a midway disaster, etc, etc, but do i honestly have to slug through a billion hours of transport and administration duties, supply, rearment etc etc. Im estimating the battle of midway to happen somewhere in the next year of my life as my average of 1 turn per 2 real days is going to be a while off. So i check and i have no delegation option for anything except the basic transport duties, and submarines. Why not the option to delegate the army like in the old version? you give me 100% control over my sea trade but 0% control on my land transport for oil and resources. So ok, i got over that, i guessed that if its this complicated in the core, and all this core is for one purpose, combat, every little action before the battle all those hours spent so the result has to be the most accurate ever in the history of games .... what a joke. i drew the line when my large force of 4 BB and 6 DD are ALL DESTROYED in one turn when i noobishly sailed into a port with "mines" So in reality the whole fleet watched one ship get hit, then another, then another, yet they sail like suicidal lemmings into the minefield and i had no way to alter orders mid-turn. How realistic! Why spend months even years creating such a complex game yet fall short in the most critical aspect of any wargame ... COMBAT! I mean of course realistically the admiral of my fleet would have changed course (much like the transports do under surface threat) as soon as the first ship got hit, so 1, maybe 2, 3 at most ships should sink, not all, thats just 100% stupidity. So what now, all i want is a midway carrier battle, thats why im busting all these hours training men and supplying bases, fair enough the 4 BB's are next to useless anyway with the air combat to come, but the mechanics of it have ut me off the game completely, i feel like performing CPR or something caus its so sad, but what can i do, Gary has let me down like this in almost all of his games, too much complexity ruins the flow. Anyway now im forced to return to PTO II, where at least i can feel like im in command of a war fleet and not a administrators office, but the game has pathetic AI hence the reason i looked here. Anyone have any suggestions for a pacific war game? ive tried most of them but nothing compares to PTO II or the original carrier wars (if only it had a campaign mode!) Ive reached the giving up point, they just cant make good strategy games anymore in this hyperactive world we live in. This game needs a demo, something to try so you arent forced to buy the game after hearing one of those spectacular reviews that always seem to conveniently leave out screenshots and comments about the actual combat in game, i was about to buy the game, what a stupid waste of money that would have been, a simple demo would have avoided me wasting 2 weeks of my life, one hour of yours, and would have prevented this whole post. It angers me to think of all the people like me who bought the game only to shelve it for the same reasons, and of course there are many. At least lay off on the security codes a little, its not like your protecting gold bullion, though it seems you are when you have to enter a serial code just to activate a Matrix games PATCH! do you lock up your toothbrush in a bathroom safe too? someone might steal that doing a criminal download, having no clue about the game, looking for a Pacific Storm or C&C style game and then complaining on the forum about the game being responsible for you having wasted two weeks of your life. Lol, crazyness has entered a new dimension...
