Approximately 20 (game) days ago, CV Enterprise entered Pearl Harbor after suffering a torpedo hit for about 40 days of repair.

I moved its air units to Pearl Harbor and transferred the best 40 pilots (the top 10 from each of the four squadrons) to General Reserve. Then I drew some (green) pilots so that I could spend the next 40 days training them - because opportunities to train carrier pilots are somewhat scarce.

Saratoga just arrived at Pearl Harbor after nearly two months at sea and several raids. I wish to draw the best 30 pilots that I had placed on reserve from Enterprise.

I understood that there was a delay of up to 15 days. However, as I said previously, has been over 20 days since I put these pilots into reserve and none of them (zero) appear currently listed as being available for Saratoga.

I am wondering where those pilots could have gone.

If they went AWOL and they're sitting in a bar in Honalulu on a 3-week drunken binge, I assure you, they are going to seriously regret making that choice.

Maybe they were put in group reserve, soo they can''t be drawn to another group?

Check all USN fighter, DB and TB squadrons on map to see if they have replacements allowed, and if they were set to pull them from general reserve. Sounds like some other squadrons took them all.

Also can you please clarify what do you mean by "available for Saratoga"... I guess you are referring to Request veteran function, if that is the case check filters in the upper right corner of the window, you can cycle through, group, tracom and general reserve pools there.

It is also possible you hit the wrong mouse button and sent them on a 180 day furlough instead of to General Reserve.

Djordje . . . you guess correctly. When Saratoga reached Pearl Harbor I drew some replacement airplanes out of the replacement airplanes pool then selected "Request Veteran" so I could draw out some of them Enterprise pilots I had put in general reserve for just such a purpose.

The option under "Show Pool:" says ANY.

However, there are no "reserve" pilots showing on the list. The bulk of the items on the list are VF-8, VS-8, and VB-8 - Hornet showed up a couple of weeks ago and is in the process of moving from the Panama Canal to San Diego.

Hornet's squadrons do not have the experience that one would expect if these squadrons also had "the top 10 pilots from each squadron from Enterprise" Lexington and Yorktown are both suffering from a shortage of pilots and are not showing any signs of having drawn any. Besides, as I said, I set all replacements to N at the start of the game just because I like to take care of such things myself.

Ultimately, maybe Hornet did draw those pilots out. Because of its obsolete planes, I intended to use it as a training carrier more than as a combat carrier - because of the overall shortage of dive bombers. Might as well put those old planes to some good use.

I look at the "List All Naval Air Units" list and it has RPL set to "N" all the way down. (I tend not to give the computer very much to do - preferring to do all of the monotonous tasks myself.) The same is true of the "List All Land Based Air Units" list.

Could check tracom as well. Sometimes pilots get sent there even when they arn't over 81 experience.

I've often wondered what that is for. Why would I want to put decent pilots out of my reach for almost half a year?

While the anonymous mass of ship and sub crews are stuck with toiling in the innards their respective vessels for the duration or until sunk.

What, you don't believe in War Bond tours?

As for subs, I don't think any men served in front-line boats for the duration. (Somebody will make a liar of me I'm sure.) Once the sub war got rolling in 1943 it was normal practice to strip up to 1/3 of each returning crew and send them to new construction in the States. That duty could mean 6-8 months in New London helping with training nugget crew, and doing the fitting-out and work-up of the new boat. It was normal for new construction crew to recieve leave at home during pre-comm duty.
