First Hi, watched the vid's they looked good but made me think of a question.

So here it is...can the colours of the dialogue boxes or any of the screen colours be changed within the game....text ,backgrounds etc....

At the moment they are blue with white writing...i find that hard to read.
I know a demo will give me a better idea later...so no probs there...this just happened to be the only concern i had.

Thank you!!

The game can be moded with ease. You may just change/recolor parts of GUI or replace them within few minutes. The same goes with text. If you are not a modder type we will help.

Hi DampSquib,

I think what you need to do is go into the "data" folder of the game and there you will find the "GUI..." excel files which define the look of your GUI. With the corresponding resolution.

For example if you have a 1280x960 resolution you go into the file "GUI_1280x960" and there you will find at the very bottom of the list in this excel-file the definition of the colors of the GUI fonts.

I hope that helps as a starter

Try using GIMP, (free program), and remember you need to maintain the transparency background of the .png file, or things will get really ugly.
Feel free to ask any questions in the mod threads here, everyone is more than willing to give you further support.
-welcome aboard.

Editing the GUI.png is a little tricky, but worth persevering.

Thank you Agent S for you're reply

I shall give the Gimp a try as well.
Mmmmm... i'm no modder ,so this could go ugly like last time.
What you guy's do in the mods section is fantastic...most of it is over my head i'm ashamed to say.
But thank's once again.

No.

The only thing i did in Paint was change the colour of the dialogue boxes.
I made the whole lot of them Darker....Just by changing the Hue or Saturation levels.

At first i thought changing the dialogue boxes would help me.
After seeing the Black one's in TOW...that looks cool.

But it would be better if i could change the white text to Black.

Thank's for the Reply Bleck.

Open your resolution GUI file as Romdanzer wrote, scroll down to font definition at the end of file, there should be 7 lines similar to this one:

1 Arial 13 90 230 230 230 255 255 0 GUI Small

Format of this line is:
#FontID Name Height Weight ColorR ColorG ColorB SpecialR SpecialG SpecialB Comment

If you want black font, then you need to change ColorR, ColorG and ColorB to 0. So this particular line should be:
1 Arial 13 90 0 0 0 255 255 0 GUI Small

SpecialR, SpecialG and SpecialB are used for instance when text is highlighted. Now (255 255 0) it is yellow, values for other colors you can check in any graphic program or online color picker.

another word of advice, open the .csv file in notepad.exe, rather than excel; as some people have issues with format and saving.
notepad avoids the added grief.

Been playing for a bit now..great game by the way.
But it is slow on my comp...it is very old!!!
Anyway is it possible to get a quick start for the game...that would help.
As i'm killing the start menu in task manager on start up.
It would be nice anyway as most of my Matrix games have one.
I did try sticking the FPS on 30..doesn't seem to do anything.
Makes no difference if it's on 30 or 60.....Oh & it doesn't stay on what i put it.
And how about a Slider for Zoom In & Out speed.
Hope you don't think i'm being rude.

1 other thing,i changed the Border Colour but did notice that most appear to be the same.
Maybe it's me maybe not...

EG: All these are Black & White...FloralWhite,AliceBlue,AntiqueWhite,Azure,Beige,Bisque,
BlanchedAlmond,CornSilk,WhiteSmoke,Gainsboro,GhostWhite,HoneyDew,Ivory,Lavender,LavenderBlush,
LemonChiffon,LightCyan,LightGoldenRodYellow,LightYellow,Linen,
MintCream,Misty,OldLace,PapayaWhip,SeaShell,Snow,White.

And these are repeats EG:DarkGrey..DarkGray..same colour different spellings.
Same with...DarkSlateGrey..DarkSlateGray....DimGrey..DimGray...Grey..Gray.
LightGrey... LightGray...LightSlateGrey....LightSlateGray.

Not only is your computer old but so is your graphics card.

Colors are fine.....

Hope you can upgrade soon.

On start up just hit the escape key two or three times then the game skips the intro.

Can you tell me how many RAM memory you have there, and how many SoP is using when playing scenario?

And believe me, FPS limit = 30 is better if you are having problem with speed, even if you don't notice it so much. And this value is saved (I know that in menu is not selected current value, we will fix it in next patch).

I have stuck the game back on 30FPS.
My CPU is maxed out at 100%.

So why if the rest of the game displays fine do i see the colours the way i posted??

I brought the game based on the System Requirements on the home page.
I am over them....but way under the recommended in the manual.
But they are not on the home page.
If i may ask will TOW be any better...or am i going to struggle with that.
As again i see no recommended requirements.

Sounds like your graphics card as mine is a similar CPU and works fine.

What are your graphic card specs?

Your system specification are even better than mine, so this is not the problem. To be honest have no idea why your CPU is 100%. Colors are slightly different, maybe you just don't see them... can you make screenshots when using two different colors, so I can compare if they are displayed properly?

It is possible that you will have those "problems" in TOW. I recommend you to check demo first.

Thanks for the reply....Sorry for being a pain.
I shall give the demo a try.
The colour thing..not the biggest of problems.
But i did think it was odd...or my stupid eyes.

I haven't had time to go into the garage and check my old graphics card. In fact I may not have the box any more, just the card.

I had the same 512 card, possibility a different model but same 512 memory.

Ja, sure it's suppose to be great, but it reacted like a 256mb card.

I replaced it and everything was super fast.

There's all sorts of settings on your graphics card.

I would look up you model on line and see if there are any complaints about failures or performance.

Also, they use the same PC card and just put in different memory chips for different performance.

So either the seller exagerarated the memory on your card and it it 256mb or the factory may have made an error.

It's so easy to have a sale on a 2 gig PC w/512 memory card. It's the same card but has 256mb. Lots of exagertion in the PC industry.

That's another search you have to do to read the memory on your card to see what it really is in capacity.

I thought Diamond was the best, but I had a problem with the last one and won't go back to that type now.

The industry consistently changes. For a few years one manufacturer is on top and then the other is on top.

I have tried different drivers...colours stay the same.
New or old drivers...even lowering Hardware accelaration.
I'm out of ideas at this point so shall do as you say.
I shall see if anything pops up in a search.

I'm not going mad so thats good.

But thank you for the help .

See how i get on with TOW next.

Just a up date really..oh & 1 question.

Brought TOW after playing the demo...runs fine.
Colours are the same as SOP..see pic.
More to the point it doesn't max out my cpu...again see pic.
Has a quick start...lovely..claw back some memory..as it was never about skiping the intro.
But i solved that by making a shortcut for sop's exe.
But that is in vain as it doesn't help.

Anyhoo looks like i might have better luck with running TOW for now.
Thanks for the help once again RAZZ!!!!

I should really of stuck this question in TOW....but hope you don't mind.
Couldn't find the answer there....may have missed it.
Anyway, loaded TOW after install..... all fine nice bullet cursor.
Patched the game to 7 then hot fix..loaded the game cursor has gone.
No bullet cursor in the gfx folder just cur.PNG ???

Rename attached file to cur.zip and unzip it to your gfx folder. You will get a bullet then instead of cursor.
