I have a vicious sinus headache, too, but I thought it was caused by that beatdown you gave me yesterday in our min-game. Maybe it's a virus that spread through our e-mails.

I just found out that our first Psychiatry grand rounds for this year will be Jonathan Shay speaking on "Combat Trauma".
Should be interesting.

You do realize that cost me a heavy cruiser and made every thing else into a cripple don't you?

BTW , Per, my brother went to Sweden for his work a few years ago; he took some pictures and the landscape were awesome ! He went in end of november IIRC , and one of his picture was taken at dawn...at 11 am .
He used to think it was a cool country, but could not stand the cold ( wich is not surprising, he can not even stand the cold in his part of France ).

We have an evil coldness at times, yes. Beautiful, but cold.

No wonder Swedes are among the busiest travelers in the world. We have to get away and warm ourselves now and then.

I'm truly looking forward to my trip to France later this autumn. In my eyes, your country is also very beautiful.

We have a good number of red tail hawks in our area.  I love watching them glide and hearing their cries.

And watching them kill and eat little birds!

Mostly, RTH don't bother trying to eat little birds. Their staples are more Rodentia and terrestrial targets of opportunity.

Okay, imbibing our favorite rum drink (I prefer scotch) while listening to birds chrip (or ducks quack) and simultaneously watching bird on bird carnage will cheer up all of us.

By jove, I think he's got it...

Eric,

Whenever you wake up I have a silly question. Is "rue des etoilles" a French idiom for the Milky Way?

Thanks

I remember hearing somewhere that in some parts of Germany pigeon is a delicacy. Any truth to that?

Squab (young pigeon) is a delicacy in many parts of the world. [opinion on] They're all nuts there, because pigeons / squabs are nasty [opinion off].

Begging your pardon, I think that theres something inherently wrong about a "species" that cant procreate by itself.

We called 'em "yardbird" in the USN and always greeted chicken served in the galley with cries of, "yardbird tonight!"

Oh? Such as many members of the human race? English Bulldogs? Most dairy cattle? Most swine sows?

Look at the bright side. There's no danger in commercial broad breasted turkeys escaping into nature and fertilizing the local 'wild turkey' population. They're an evolutionary dead end. A very tasty one too.

In college I worked in pet stores, and I've been around tropical birds pretty much all my life, so yeah I understand the problems with Macaws (and their ability for wholesale destruction). If I had one, it would be after total retirement, in Florida, with a semi-outdoor aviary. It's the African Grays I can't handle. Those bloody things scream worse than a banshee! (Either the jet or irish kind!).

But you must admit that there is something neat about a bird that can call and terrify a cat!

We had a moluccan cockatoo for years that had no fear of our cats whatsoever. Or our dog. The cockatoo would intentionally bait them to come close to his cage when he was outside of it. When the dog (in particular) ambled over to lick up some seeds or goodies that the bird baited it with, the bird would flare his wings, extend his crest and shriek from above. Nine times out of ten it scared the **** out of the dog. The cockatoo would also bait or 'ambush' our cats, in the same vein.

Not a lot of survival instincts in that bird...

I know pigeons were eaten in Leningrad during the blockade. It didnt catch on. Unlike some other starvation measures like poison ivy and beet stalks. Never had any myself, but I've heard that poison ivy makes a tasty soup.
