Turn 13 - May 31st 1965 to June 6th 1965 Turn 13 opens with Ba Gia under attack, Duc Co still in enemy hands and Phu Loc under attack. The NVA and VC are stepping up their attacks all over the country. There are no missions this turn but the ARVN are continuing an operation to relieve Ba Gia Operation Tu Loc 150. On June 1st of this turn 2 Marine A-1 Skyhawk squadrons land at Chu Lai Airfield north of Ba Gia. The Chu Lai airfield is a short airfield for tactical support (SATS) which is in effect an "aircraft carrier" on land, complete with catapult (from 1967 on) and arresting wires. Built by laying some 4000 feet of aluminum matting runways on highly unstable, sandy soil, Chu Lai was built in 24 days. Also on June 5th officials in Saigon have reported that after a two month lull, main force Viet Cong units have returned to the battlefield in increasing numbers since early May. Here's the news summary for turn 13.
