Alright, for some reason I decided to fiddle around with some of the game files (which is unusual to say the least, as by no means am I a modder) and remembered some of the mod discussions going around, and so I tried to make a WWI scenario.

Since I thought I had made some notable progress for so little time, I decided to kick this out to the general public to see if they were interested in helping.

For everybody's information, this was made using the .40 open Beta patch, so I do not know how it will react with other version of the game.

The scenario should appear at the very bottom of the current list as "The Guns of August - 1914 start", more or less covering what it you uld guess: the very outbreak of the war. I must state that it is NOT PLAYABLE due not merely to the highly inaccurate balance of power (a side effect of copy/pasting data from the vanilla scenarios without editing just so I can see what the hell I'm doing while editing) but also a chronic case of wild Political Freeze that I have not the scarcest idea of how to cure. It's mainly here so that you can: A. See what I've been able to do so far, and B. See what anybody else can do to help if they so desire.

And make no mistake: I need a LOT of help, as I am not a modder and have run into trouble even with this comparatively accessable game.

Here's a list of what I've been able to accomplish thus far:

* Reformed Ottoman Turkish Empire by giving Middle East (Syria, TJ, and Iraq) to Turkey and editing the name to display as "Ottoman Turkey."
* Reformed Austro-Hungarian Empire by adding Hungary to the German world power and flipping Austria and Czechoslovakia to display as Hungarian before renaming Hungary "Austria-Hungary."
* Renamed several nations for historical accuracy: Turkey --> Ottoman Turkey, Hungary --> Austria-Hungary, Commonwealth (which wasn't formed yet) --> British Empire, and Soviet Union --> Russia (may become "Russian Empire" or "Tsarist Russia.")
* Reformed Geman Colonial Empire in Africa and the Pacifc by recreating it with the closest aproximations I can (British East Africa- which was in fact conquered and annexed in this war- --> German East Africa, Angola --> German South-West Africa (as the historical territory of GSWA is in the province of South Africa itself).
* Renamed/reflagged various provinces for accuracy (New Caledonia is now French as it should be, both in this game and in the vanila game, Turkey now has control of the Middle East outside of Arabia as was historical, renamed German colonies conquered in WWI to their historical names and reformed them, gave Austria-Hungary historical holdings, renamed Yugoslavia to Serbia and Montenegro, Manchuria and Hainan are now Chinese, etc).
* Have transferred Japan to Western Allied control to simulate Japan's alliance with the West in WWI.
* Have neutralized the Japanese and Chinese WPs to avoid complications in the Pacific. Also neutralized China.
* Have edited some diplomatic values to make them somewhat closer to history (needs severe editing).

What I have to get around to still:
* Finding a way to try and prevent the historical invasion of the Low Countries (as per history as allowed by the preexisting map) from automatically flipping the Dutch colonies to the WA, preferably while still giving a chance of having them enter the war (to have a potential of the original Schliffen plan,involving the invasion of the Netherlands in addition to that of Belgium and Luxembourg).
* Working on how to get Japan into the Western Allies proper without some of the technical glitches (like the "Japanese surrender" appearing).
* How to get Serbia/Montenegro to join Russia/the USSR rather than the WA.
* Trying to find a way to get the Turks into the war.

What I have not even touched but desperately need work:
* Military Units.
* Research. Just Research.
* Technology.
* Rebalancing the game so that the Germans are actually dangerous and capable of winning.
* Events. Just events.
* Redistributing resorces and factories.
* A strange glitch that has encased most of the map in Political Freeze, thereby rendering most of the scenario completely unplayable.

Things I am contemplating but haven't decided on yet:
* Simulating the West African German colonies (Togoland and GWA) and if so deciding where to put them (namely Nigeria or FEA).
* Unfreezing at least the Eastern and Central Sahara and giving the former to the WA (to simulate the river and railroad infrastructure that was there and remove my pet peeve of the game not taking into account the comparatively easy way to trek down the Egypt/Sudanese Sahara as opposed to the sections further to the West) and the latter to the Ottoman Turks (to represent the Senussi and the issues the WA had with them in Northern Africa).
* Adding in German naval units in the other German colonies and letting them try to flee back to Europe to give both sides something to do and to prevent the WA from massing everything off the coast of the CP at first.
*Province editing/creation in general.
* Having the Chinese WP act as Czarist Russia (more details later).

The bare minimum necessary for this scenario to function:
* Tech and VP retooling so that the game is (as was historical) more focused on Europe and the Near East.
* Resource/Population redistribution to accurately show the power of the Centrals vis-a-vis the Allies and to prevent the WA from spamming troops from (say) Japan and other nations that were barely involved.
* Finding out some way to get Russia to sue for Peace.
* Finding some way to get Germany to capitulate relatively historically.
* Evaluaing and distributing units to represent the comparatively primaive tactics and equipment of the day.
* Getting the AI rewired.
*Building Strongpoints/Fortresses, particularly on the Western, Italian, and Balkan fronts.
* Getting some Garrison requirements for the Germans in the Turkish Empire (to simulate the Arab Revolt, the Armenian rebellions, etc etc).
* Some way to simulate the effects of the blockade on he Central Powers.
* Freeing the game map from the strange outbreak of Political Freeze.

What I personally would like to accomplish:
* Events to streamline the more important aspects and to give the AI kicks in the rear to give a fairly historical outcome (ie events for the entries of Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, etc in to he war, peace events for everybody, resources bonuses for the Pacific supply to Russia and for Chinese labor for the WA, etc).
* Getting the year to display correctly,
* New art, preferable ones that are sill compatable with the old ones.
* Some way to get a Russian Revoluion/Civil War scenario, with the Czarist government (in this case with the Chinese subbing in as them) being challenged by the Bolsheviks (namely the actual Soviet player).
* A possible "Postwar continuation" possibly featuring the Bolshevik Revolution's attempts to export its' revolution or (if possible) maybe even a conflict between the WA and the Czar.
* More scenarios, likely one for each year of the war (1914, '15, '16, '17, and '18) and possibly a postwar one (1919) acting like the vanilla Scenario V.
* Finding a way to get the scenario description to include a slider like the scenario list to prevent the scenario description from spilling over the side.

Alright, since the forum has issues with files, I'll be spreading the rest out on other posts. You'll need to download ALL of these and dump them in your dat file- allowing them to overwrite if necessary- for it t work.

If anybody has any idea about why the whole "one file per post" issue exists, PLEASE tell me. Because I didn't like that any more than any of you did.

Anyway, I think that's all of them. If I'm mistaken, please call me and tell me what is (look in the scen14 file if need be).

Please give any feedback you feel like!
