While remarking how cool this footage is, please remember there were veterans in those planes dieing doing what they were ordered to do; with far too little training to actually do it - and they knew it.

Very interesting. The two guys running along the beach really creeped me out a bit. What a hopeless situation. It actually looks like the pilot missed them....

I think you're right. Unlikely one's going to run after being hit with a few .50s. I think both those guys were pretty darn lucky.

Strafing ground targets reminded me of some P47 and P51 gun camera footage I've seen from the ETO. 6 or 8 x50-cals on horse-drawn carriages...what a mess.

Reminds me of a scene I saw in "the war" documentary by Ken Burns... A must see for everybody on this forum..

the War

One of the scenes that put tears in my eyes the first time I watched it....

That's why I rode a tank to war. Some of those guys learned first hand about getting flamed.

A friend of my father flew as a carrier based naval aviator in WWII in the Pacific theater. According to my father, O. Vodrey never really liked to talk about his experiences during the war even though he did confess to my Dad that he did have some kills to his credit. I knew Oliver Vodrey as a nice guy and friend of the family. These films show the reality of what these guys really did.

By the way, O. Vodrey is included in WITP AE pilot roster. I think that's pretty cool.
