One of my favorite Gamecock players and currently playing for the Broncos committed suicide today. I'm just stunned and devastated. He was the hardest worker, the nicest kid and someone you would otherwise point out as a complete role model.

I have no words. Weeping for his family and confused by such a drastic choice with all his potential.

Folks, make sure you love your friends and family. Tell them they are appreciated. I'm convicted of my own apathy and callousness to those around me right now. Who can know what people are suffering? But we can be a light and a friend to them.

God bless his family and graciously forgive him for this. I just don't know what to say right now.

You've certainly brought up an excellent point: we can best help those to whom we are near or interact with on a consistant basis by going beyond the standard greeting of "How are you? Fine? Good". When we assume others are doing well because they look okay, we fall into the trap of indifference.

Floods, suicides and general negative vibes abound...

I've done my part to raise the 'good karma quotient' around here by writing a nice letter of recommendation for a student to do a fellowship at CDC. It was very complimentary. As is my policy for these sorts of things, I'm going to send her a copy too. I hope it makes her cry-but in a good way.

It's important for people to read nice things about themselves as they develop their careers. Too often their ears are filled with those things that they can't do, what they're poor at, what they should be doing and how they should be doing it. They infrequently hear of those things that they genuinely do well. We're scant with praise, rich with criticism.

Not today. Not me.

Go do your parts.

A question to Terminus: did you empower the Emily's in your Thousand mile war with some kind of super powers? Should 4 of them be able to penetrate a CAP screen and torpedo (and sink) a pair of battleships on most occassions? Chickenboy, Chicken of the Sea just repeated your success , except this time it was fair weather and a CVE full of F4F's covering the battleships couldn't catch them!

Honestly, that result surprised me as much as it did you. So either Terminus rigged the scenario to torment you or perhaps earlier in life you wronged some fair lady named Emily and now the curse of the Emily will follow you forever.

I always roll my eyes when the "usual crowd" acts up whenever a Japanese player gets a result that isn't a strict replay headline from history. We then get the history lesson along with dark sermons on how AE is influenced by an evil pro-Japanese shadow society. (well they're right in JWE's case......he's certainly shadowy.....and i think he likes Sushi)

Get a result outside of history that favors the Allied side however....and suddenly all those voices either go silent or comment favorably on how the result is certainly possible within the realm of possibility.

I have no problem with wild, once in a life time weirdness. When said weirdness occurs two games running, I've got to wonder. It never happened in the Dozen or so games I played against the AI , but in the two times I've played it in a PBEM, it's happened both times. I'm not complaining (much!) but didn't the odds just go from strange to astronomical?

All I way asking T was did he hack into my computer, or leave an easter egg in the scenario for me? And JWE , what did I do to you?

oh i hear you. Its just the obvious hipocracy that irritates me. (PT's score the mother load against a BB and a heavy cruiser, which never occured in history, but thats ok. Same smack downed japanese force sinks multiple PT's in return but thats NOT ok because that exceeded the HISTORY of PT sinkings.)

okey dokey.

I'll break security this time to explain what I think happened. I had Betties coming in high and Emilies low. Both should have had escorts, but the escorts never showed. The Betties aborted and went home. Perhaps your F4F's were chasing the Betties at altitude and the Emilies snuck in underneath.

Steve did take Kiska that turn, though.

I didn't mean to sound whiney. I'm really too shocked to be upset. And it's not that it happened in our game. It's that it happened almost exactly the same way. I really need to look into these Emily's. They must be a vastly underated plane.
