I'm interested in LSA for smaller scale battles, and have a few questions regarding this.

1. What's the smallest unit you're moving around in a scenario? A squad (or other component of a platoon)?

2. Making a new battle/scenario. What's the smallest practical force you can set up? Can a battle be something as small as a company vs. a few platoons and support weapons?

3. Are there all of the Operation Market Garden allied forces available in game (Yanks, Brits, Poles etc)?

4. I want to set up a basic attack/defense battle. How do you make one side defend/hold their ground?

5. Last one, I promise. How do you set up easy victory conditions; e.g., if attacker gains X position they win? If defender eliminates X attacking units they win?

Thanks.

1. A sniper.

2. Depending on your definition of "practical", a sniper. A battle can be as small as one sniper vs another.

3. Yes, all of the above as well as the free Dutch 'Prinses Irene Brigade', which, when matched against KG Helle, makes it possible to stage a miniature civil war between opposing Dutch forces.

4. The rule of thumb is that if the defender is AI controlled, they will get 'happy feet' and cannot be made to stand fast in their deployment positions. You will find some BGs are more prone to moving on the defense than others dues to the 'base battle plans' section of Data/Base/Campaign.txt in combination with the Battle Group commander characteristics in Data/Base/BGroups.txt
Its an issue that has irked CC players since late in the 20th century.

5. CCM6 is the only version that easily allows those sort of victory conditions to be set. The best LSA can do in that regard is by use of modified map.BTD files with a single victory location.

Caution is advised if playing with speakers ON.

re: Q5 above - a modified LSA map.BTD would need a minimum of 2 VLs (one per side for deployment). Then, using the 'end battle if all VLs are taken' game option would produce the sort of "gain X position to win" victory condition DaveyJJ is looking for.

Ja, some of the Dutch vox cues are a tad over the top :)
