Hello friends, I´m a new comer to UV (sorry for my English, I´ts of the center Atlantic School), and I heve some ques. for you, if anybody can help me.

1.- I´m playing like Jap and all my bases lack support. Where can I get this support? The bases have a lot of supply via STANDRT CONVOYS.

2.- How can these bases upgrade airfield. I´ve read in the forum that this takes a lot of time. Is this true?

3.- I can´t find the editor in my copy of UV. Where must I look for it?

Thanks for all in advance.

IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED THE GAME CORRECTLY, IT SHOULD BE IN THE UV/SCEN DIRECTORY ON YOUR HARD DRIVE. IT IS CALLED "UV CAMPAIGN EDITOR".

I've found shouting often helps when I'm trying to make myself understood to someone who doesn't speak english very well.

ENJOY THE GAME

Mate,

For question 2, any unit that has engineers in it can upgrade the airbase level of a location.

Generally, to improve a location's air base level, do the following.

1) Get as many engineer squads and vehicles as you can into the hex/location you want to expand. Units with engineer capability will have ENG as their type when looking at the troops located at a base. They also have an engineering symbol on them if you are selecting them from the unit line of that hex. If you click on an individual unit you can see how many squads of engineers they contain. It will also show how many engineering vehicles they contain (if any). Only some allied units will contain engineering vehicles. Each vehicle does 5 times the engineering work of a squad (I think).

2) Ensure you have good supply at a base (cant tell you what it is exactly but having twice the minimum supply need of the base is a good start). To expand a base takes supplies.

3) Click on the hex/location to bring up the base screen. Toward the top and right you will see buttons asking you whether you want to expand/stop expanding the Port, Airfield and Fortifications. If you want to expand the airfield, click the button next to "Airfield" until it shows "Stop Expanding" (which is fine, if no building is happening, it shows "Expand") and the airfield capacity in the top middle of the screen should now say expanding and have a % (It will normally show 0 when you first start). The % means how much of the work has been done to expand 1 level. Your now on the way.

4) To build the airbase as quick as possible, make sure the engineers are not working on anything else (like the port or fortifications). If they are, stop them by clicking the buttons so that they show expand port and expand fortification. If this is combined with as many engineering squads/vehicles as possible, as well as good supply, you are probably building as fast as possible (in my opinion but someone else may know more).

5) Under the best circumstances, airbases can be expanded very quickly (one level a week, maybe. Not sure exactly). Check the SPS level the hex (explained in manual). If the airbase level of a location has not exceeded its SPS level, it will go fairly quickly. If you want to expand to beyond the SPS level (you can expand an extra 3 levels beyond the SPS of a location), it will take considerably more time to reach the next level.

6) Got to go now, need alcohol. Bye.

ANDY
There are 2 types of support. Aviation & regular.

Aviation support is usually provided by base forces (sometimes also HQs) and this applies to the support of airplanes only (at airbases).

Regular support is provided partly by the units themselves (many have SOME support capability, just not enough --- others don't have any inherent support --- look at the units to check this out) but mostly by HQs. HQs have far more supply than they need so that they can be used to help support other units in the same hex.

HELLO FRIENDS,

THAKS FOR ALL YOUR GOOD ADVICE. I understand that I need some HQ in the bases to have support. Ok that´s fine but, can I have all the HQ´s pouring arround the bases, and whats the maximum distance an HQ must have to be from the above Hq in the chain of command?

Thanks for all.

When picking base support personel it's a very good idea to click on the unit and check out how the support breaks down. For example: a base support group that contains a 40 man avaition group (or more) may not be the group to set on base with limited or no air. These base units and engineer units ar highly important and care must be given iin their use.

Welcome to the forum and happy gaming!

ATENTOKO
Try: Sec 10.1, pg 65; Sec 11.7, pg 80; Sec 14.0, pg 95; & Sec 14.3, pg 96-97 in the manual.

Aviation Support personnel are usually found in Base Forces.

If click on the little airfield icon for a base, you'll get a list of the air units at the base as well as, on the right side, a list of the required and available aviation support personnel. If you have too few, the number will be red or orange or something eye catching. (UV makes, by the way, excellent use of color to draw your eye to important numbers).

If your air units don't fly, there are several reasons why. Not enough supply, not enough planes working, they can't find anything to hit, low morale, high fatigue...
