So, I played a little with C&C and recognize a thing that bugged me... One very effective tactic of the germans in russia (in the early war years) where to try to kill the Command Tank of a T34 Platoon. If the Command Tank gets killed the other Tanks of the platoon have stopped or retreated because the Command Tank where the only tank with a radio. If Fog of War is on, then you will not see if a tank has a radio. But I think you should see it if you are close enough. Then you know which tank to take out first. This will really help the german player against the early soviets. Harry BTW...where have those Command Tanks gone..or was this SPWW2 ?

"If the Command Tank gets killed the other Tanks of the platoon have stopped or retreated because the Command Tank where the only tank with a radio." True, and still applicable today against some adversaries, as the platoon leader is only one with a clue on the mission. I believe though that rather than look for antennas-tough to see in most conditions-the command vehicle was identified by how it moved in relation to other AFVs around it. If one looks at the makeup of Soviet platoons during 1941-42, I think that the platoon leader has a different model T34. That would be your clue.

Since command tanks are links UP to higher echelon HQs and there are only plt and Co level C2 represented in the game, there is no reason to have Command tanks, as they role they play is beyond the cope of the game. As far as early Russian units go, there are "company sized platoons" in the game and they have great difficulty functioning if the COmmand tank is taken out. Since the command tank must e within 2 hexes of teh others, it con usually be narrowed down to 2 or 3 possibles if the models are all the same, that is about the best you could often do...

Considering all the scenarios I have played with visibilities less than 10, if you can't see a tank beyond 500 yards how are you going to see the rather small rod antenna that Soviet tanks used. You had a better chance of seeing the company commander giving arm/flag signals to the other tanks. Speaking of WWII tank radios, the German tanks in NA used sets that were pretty close to CB radios in propagation. US ham radio operators could pick up chatter near what was then the 11 meter ham band. The current size of the map, is about all one of those radios could do direct line of sight. With lots of hills or buildings in the way, even units with radios might not keep contact. thanks, John.
