Wow. I have never seen this kind of error before. Can you give me your system specs? I am going to have to research this a little and information on your system will be crucial.

Now, it doesn't matter if you have Java installed on your machine or not. The game has its own internal runtime that it uses. It doesn't hurt to have Java installed, of course. At least, it shouldn't.

You can also try to uninstall the game and then reinstall it.

I'll wait to hear about your system specs before I try to diagnose this.

I'm not too good with computers so how do I find the system specs that you need? Also I noticed that this game needs 2GB's of RAM but my PC has only 1 though it is fine for everything else. Could this be the problem preventing me from starting the game?

Cheers,

Steve

Steve,

The amount of RAM you need really will depend on which version of Windows you are using. 1 GB is fine for 32-bit XP. For 32-bit versions of Vista and Windows 7 you can probably get by with 1 GB but 2 GB is recommended. You say that your machine is running other programs well, so the amount of RAM is probably not the issue.

The first thing is to start with the OS.

Using the "Start" button at the bottom left of the screen (on XP), or the Windows Logo Icon at the bottom left of the screen:

--> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> System Information. You should see a summary of your system with the first two lines reading "OS Name" and "Version"

Please use that to report which OS and version you are running. Then we will go from there.

The --> simply means to navigate the menus by left clicking on Start (if using XP) or that Windows Logo Icon and then clicking on All Programs and drilling down through those menus until you click on System Information.

"Japanese" Windows causes this problem ("windows-31j" indicates the character code using in Japanese Windows applications.)

By performing the following operation, this problem is solved:
1. (Start Menu) - (Settings) - (Regional and Language Options).
2. At (Regional Options) tab, change the (Japanese) to (English (United States)).
(UIs are described in English for convenience...of course, I use Japanese Windows XP SP3.)

I have around thirty Matrix games...but "Hannibal" is the first game with this problem.

Other Japanese user says, "There is no problem in old demo version (Slitherine's version?)."

New patch 1.01 cannot solve this problem.
I hope Matrix Games solves this problem as soon as possible and I do not need to change language settings every time playing "Hannibal".

I suspected that it was something like this. I'll get on it. Thanks for the help. It's good to know what OS you are running.

The next patch should correct this problem. We hope to release a beta form of that patch no later than Monday the 11th (U.S. date).

I applied 1.02 beta patch to "Hannibal".
The game start on Japanese Windows XP SP3 normally...without changing language settings.

Thanks for good working!
