Any success with strafing aircraft vs. Barge TFs? - 8/17/2002 1:14:27 AM

Hi all,

I am trying to stop the IJN Barge TFs using the strafing aircraft ("Naval Attack"
set at 100 altitude).

My aircraft do engage but they attack just one (single) barge.

I have seen that by my 75+ aircraft attack single barge (I mostly use P39s for
this task - they had good experience, good moral and low fatigue).

They ripped it with 100+ shell hits and barge, of course, sinks... but I know for
a fact that there were other barges in same TF.

Are my combat reports true (i.e. is it true that just one enemy barge was
attacked) or this is Fog of War at work?

Any ideas?

If you're using P-39s anyway, then why don't you set their altitude to 1000 ft and bomb the barges? One or two hits with 250lb bombs will be enough for any barge, and on that mission they'll target the whole TF!
But watch out for the automatic upgrade. Beginning in October '42 there will be P-38s in the pool, and unfortunately the Airacobras often will be the first that get replaced.

I have been strafing barges a lot in recent PBM game, with A20, Wiraway, and P39/400s. There is no doubt that the one barge seems to be singled out for special treatment and gets attacked and bombed/strafed into oblivion. However, I typically I see 3-5 barges attacked and 1-3 sunks. So yes you can sink more than one per attack.

I have seen the same.

Seeing "80 shell hits, 30 bomb hits" on one barge is a little silly.

Have you posted this as a bug? If not, please do. Matrix is doing a great job of fixing most of the issues like this.

Rick

Edit: Please keep a save of the turn the attack took place and the replay if you can they may ask for them.

I haven't posted this as a bug (yet).

Do you think I should?

BTW, the game save file is not OK here because air actions can vary very much...

Hi,

I've found that when the P-39 unit gets more experience it will both bomb and strafe the barges if set to 100 feet.
But:( it still limits the attack to just one barge.

If needed I should be able to provide a save file also. I've seen this so often in my present game.

Yes... they do bomb ("skip bomb" I pressume because of altitude) and strafe with guns.

But, as we all pointed out, it is _ALWAYS_ against just one enemy barge.

Therefore we all see the same thing and it is definitively a bug...

Hi all,

I have just posted this as a bug in UV Bug Forum:

"Bpre", if 2by3 and Matrix ask for UV save game file can you please give it to them (as you indicated)?
