Just had to exercise my green button for someone I've tried to tolerate for a long time.  It's just become too much work to not get upset, so I choose not to participate.

I'm praying my Twins can break the pride of the Yankees

I'll be rooting for the home team on this one, John.

Put me down as a Twins fan in the playoffs. They are still one of my favorite teams since I lived there. I actually went to their spring training for several days in 2000 and took in an Orioles ST game as well.

My "other" favorite baseball team is whoever is playing against the Yankees.

Having grown up in SW Ohio watching the Big Red Machine of the 70's, I'm pulling for Cincinnnati. I was up there for a game this summer. They have a nice team, but I doubt their pitching will take them very far in the post-season.

I was very surprised to see it!  I've even had a bunch of duds from my S-boats.

Had enough of the energy vampire, herwin.  It's a shame because he is very knowledgeable about a lot of things, but I just refuse to listen to his constant negativity anymore.

The team is solvent but the Cayman Islands based holding company that owns the team is bust. The 2 guys who currently own it have milked Liverpool dry and are now holding out for a bigger price before the team is taken into administration next Friday.

Do baseball owners not follow the sports news over here? Only a fool would buy Liverpool with the amount of debt they're saddled with (through their parent company). It's a similar story with Man Utd as well (and a lot of other clubs in case anyone accuses me of picking on the Yanks/Spams/Septics/Americans/North Americans/USAians/Pale Faces/Johnny Foreigner/Colonials). There's only money to be made in British football by getting into the Champions League (also includes teams who finished fourth, so not really champions eh?). The rest of the time it's a money sink, especially at a team like Liverpool, where the fans want, nay, expect and demand trophies and stuff.

Then again, the recent Youtube video made by the Liverpool supporters is apparently a bit of a giggle, as the supporters make the claim that Hicks & Gillet's actions are the same as burning down their houses and raping their entire families (they actually believe this). Not like the Liverpool fans to over-react though...

If you boys had any sense you'd stay well clear, because when things go wrong (and at Liverpool they will) it'll all be the fault of the mean old Americans. There are few foreign owners who seem to be doing OK and are popular (Randy Lerner at Villa for example). H&G at Liverpool and the Glazers at Man Utd are squarely in the disliked camp.

Then again, I couldn't give a toss about Liverpool and the rest of those 'big clubs'. The fans are always happy when some stranger comes along with a sack of money. Right up until they do the same as everyone else did and used the football club as a business. The Premier League (and by extension the clubs in it) has made it's decisions and now they have to live with it. MAYBE someone like Liverpool going bust would teach a lesson about living beyond your means...

There's too much (unjustified) money sloshing around the game these days, Lincoln nearly went bust a few years ago and whilst previously I wouldn't want other fans to go through the same thing my attitudes have changed. Too many fans welcome foreign owners buying 'their' clubs without knowing anything about them and then complain when things go belly-up. Because it'll be different this time...

What are considered the 'big' clubs in the EPL? Is it defined by fanbase size or revenue.

Over here, it's all about revenue, and that's primarily TV driven, not fan driven.

It all depends. Until recently (last year) the so called 'Big Four' were (in no particular order)
Chelsea, recent success and lots of money through their Russian owner.
Manchester United, recent success and the first of the English 'brands' to be popular abroad.
Liverpool, the biggest English team of the era before British teams were banned from continental competitions. Lost their way lately mind.
Arsenal, not quite matched the success levels of their rivals but were still quite succesful including an entire season without losing a league game.

Those four were a gulf in class apart from the other 16 teams, mostly due to the fact that they were the only teams to finish in the top four positions on a regular basis. The top four positions are important as they are the qualifying places for the Champions' League (1-3 automatically get in, fourth has to play some teams from Iceland and the like) The recent influx of cash to Man City and 'Spurs mini-revival have changed that lately, especially as Liverpool are constantly on the verge of imploding.

I like my (at best) mediocre Lincoln City. No danger of finishing in the top half, let alone the top division any time soon Their best league performance was in the third division waaay back when Graham Taylor managed them after retiring through injury.

If your best ever period in 125 years of existence is a single season in the third (of four) professional divisions then that's a record to be proud of
